Position Summary
The Cargo Scheduler / Voyage Optimizer is responsible for the safe, compliant, and commercially optimized scheduling and execution of global hydrocarbon cargo movements. This role serves as the key interface between Global Trading, ExxonMobil affiliates, terminals, customers, and shipping counterparts to ensure efficient end-to-end cargo movements while maximizing commercial value and minimizing operational risk. This role also manages marine logistics activities across a global portfolio of vessels operating under various chartering arrangements, ensuring timely cargo execution, voyage optimization, transportation cost efficiency, and seamless supply chain performance, providing commercial and operational expertise to influence value chain decisions, resolve supply disruptions, and protect business value through effective voyage management and optimization strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure all cargo scheduling and voyage execution activities comply with company policies, industry standards, maritime regulations, and governmental requirements.
- Promote and implement safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible marine logistics operations.
- Monitor operational risks and proactively mitigate issues that may impact cargo movement, vessel safety, regulatory compliance, or business continuity.
Cargo Scheduling & Voyage Execution
- Manage the scheduling, execution, and delivery of ExxonMobil and third-party hydrocarbon cargoes worldwide.
- Coordinate vessel nominations, cargo movements, terminal operations, and voyage execution activities to ensure on-time cargo deliveries.
- Maintain accurate and timely voyage schedules while proactively managing operational disruptions.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for voyage-related information and resolution of logistics and marine operational issues.
Commercial Optimization
- Maximize the contractual and financial performance of commercial agreements through effective cargo scheduling and voyage management.
- Identify and execute opportunities to create value through voyage optimization, including:
- Vessel repositioning
- Out-chartering opportunities
- Stowage optimization
- Bunkering strategies
- Cargo consolidation and split deliveries
- Charter party optimization
- Prevent value chain dis-optimization such as Upstream production curtailments, refinery run-rate disruptions, customer stock-outs, and supply interruptions.
Marine Logistics Portfolio Management
- Oversee a global portfolio of marine transportation assets under various charter arrangements, including:
- Spot charters
- Time charters
- Contracts of Affreightment (COAs)
- Term vessel agreements
- Evaluate transportation alternatives and recommend the most economical shipping solutions.
Stakeholder & Supply Chain Coordination
- Collaborate closely with voyage optimizers, freight traders, chartering teams, terminal operators, refinery schedulers, and customers to ensure efficient cargo execution.
- Act as the primary supply-chain contact for communicating supply status, scheduling updates, and issue resolution.
- Facilitate effective communication amongst internal and external stakeholders to maintain a seamless customer experience.
Commercial Stewardship
- Provide commercial expertise and influence trading and value chain decisions through logistics analysis and recommendations.
- Monitor and manage voyage economics, including:
- Freight performance
- Demurrage exposure
- Oil loss implications
- Transportation costs
- Schedule reliability
- Support the timely resolution and documentation of commercial and operational claims.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Economics, or a related discipline.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in marine logistics, cargo scheduling, vessel operations, chartering, supply chain, trading operations, or hydrocarbon transportation.
- Experience working in a fast-paced global operations environment managing multiple priorities and stakeholders.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Technical Knowledge
- Strong understanding of the maritime transportation industry.
- Knowledge of tanker operations, vessel chartering, and marine logistics optimization.
- Understanding of cargo scheduling, marine dispatch, and supply operations processes.
- Familiarity with hydrocarbon supply chains and petroleum trading operations.
- Working knowledge of commercial contracts, charter parties, and transaction accounting principles.
- Knowledge of freight economics, voyage calculations, demurrage, and marine operational costs.
- Experience in LNG operations is a bonus.

- Ability to evaluate transportation alternatives and identify value-maximizing logistics solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with the ability to balance commercial and operational priorities.
- Experience managing operational and financial impacts across complex supply chains.
