Currently we have an opportunity for an experienced Northeast Power Analyst to be part of our Global Trading Analytics team. The role will work very closely with our teams on the trading floor and is based in our Houston, Texas Spring Campus.
What you will do
- You will provide market expertise, fundamental analysis, statistical modelling and opportunity & risk identification to support power trading, structuring, and origination activities focused on the Northeast U.S. power markets.
- You will take responsibility for understanding and analyzing ExxonMobil’s North American power exposure as we support our business in navigating the evolving U.S. power landscape.
This includes analyzing regional market fundamentals, nodal and zonal dynamics, power generation assets, congestion patterns, and forward market drivers across ISOs such as PJM, ISO NE, and NYISO. - You will help us capture additional value by advising on trading strategies, the optimization of power positions, and the identification and structuring of new opportunities.
- Leveraging detailed market understanding to recommend profitable trading, optimization, and business development strategies
- Researching, analyzing and interpreting fundamental drivers across the Northeast U.S. power markets, and translating these into market views and forward price outlooks to drive trading strategies
- Leading the development & improvement of analytical tools
- Development and/or enhancement of existing analytical tools to improve insights from market fundamentals
- Remaining knowledgeable about leading-edge developments, analytical techniques, technologies and tools in advanced analytics
- Valuation and cash flow modelling of both potential projects and structured deals, to support investment cases and commercial decision-making
What you bring
- Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) in a numeric discipline e.g. Engineering, Science, Economics, Finance, Mathematics or Statistics (or hold other relevant industry experience)
- Have previous experience in the North American wholesale power industry or related consultancy experience
- Be experienced in developing power price forecasts using stack modelling tools, within a trading or consultancy environment to inform trading strategies
- Have experience in U.S. power fundamentals analysis & advanced analytical methods
- Demonstrable analytical/innovative thinking expertise, intellectual rigor, drive, and desire to lead change
- Experience working with dispatch/stack models, Eikon, Bloomberg, other databases and analytical/visualization tools
- Established knowledge of data modelling and proficiency with R, Python or Matlab would be beneficial but not essential
- Strong communication & interpersonal skills
- Ideally the successful candidate would be familiar with the modelling of physical power assets, regional transmission constraints, capacity markets, and an in depth knowledge of at least one major Northeast U.S. ISO (PJM, ISO NE, or NYISO), with a keen interest to learn about broader North American power markets.
- Experience in other commodities would also be beneficial.
