Job Role Description

The operations commercial advisor will report to the Head of North American Power and will be responsible for all settlement and billing functions for the ExxonMobil Power Trading desk.

The individual will need to possess a broad-based understanding of scheduling and settlement rules with North American power markets – specifically ERCOT, MISO and PJM. This role will be instrumental in achieving the growth ambitions of ExxonMobil as we expand our market presence and footprint. The candidate will work closely with trade desk to fully understand strategies and provide a settlement feedback loop to fully monetize and unlock opportunities. They will be the primary settlement and billing point of contact with the North American ISO/ Power Market Operation, Counterparties and Internal Business Units.  This role will serve as the ISO settlement and protocol subject matter expert – helping to drive deeper power market insight. This role will work closely with the Trade Enablement Manager to advance the execution of Power Trading desk’s initiatives.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Ability to model and explain complex settlement calculations to internal and external counterparties to demonstrate expertise and create clarity. This role will be part of the external origination process as the settlement and billing subject matter expert.
  • Ability to design and implement processes for complete volume and dollar tie out with ISO, Exxon Mobil mid and back-office efforts. Internal networking and cross functional collaboration are expected to ensure seamless process handoffs and approvals are met – including ISO credit postings, margining and internal enablement.
  • Demonstrated experience in billing system implementation for commercial function and position review for dynamically scheduled assets - both generation and load.
  • Experience explaining and delivering complex topics in simple and understandable terms.
  • Ability to monitor and report settlement data and recommend changes as needed for continuous improvement and/efficiency.
  • Strong knowledge of power scheduling within North American ISO markets – with ability to research market rules and settlement calculations – will act as ExxonMobil’s single point of contact for North American ISO settlement information and explanation.
  • Strong knowledge of Ancillary Service market fundamentals, procurement, deployment and settlement calculations – including penalties and claw backs.
  • Working knowledge of DA/RT trading opportunities and necessary settlement process with ISO. Create process with trading desk and enablement for systematic settlement cash / Profit & Loss review and reconciliation.
  • Working knowledge of congestion markets and set up required to support CRR/FTR account holder designations. Will research and suggest settlement process for market entry – including credit implications.
  • Working knowledge of regional power and gas markets and its impact on market pricing
  • Working knowledge of Risk Management measures – Value at Risk , draw down, position limits, NOP, Mark-to-Market and cash variance.
