What role you will play in our team
This position provides operations support as part of the MSO – Mountain Gathering department at a natural gas processing facility with NGL recovery. The Plant Operator is responsible for safely operating, monitoring, and maintaining plant and compressor station equipment to ensure efficient production, product quality, and regulatory compliance in a PSM-regulated environment.
What you will do
- Learn and operate plant control functions through HMI/SCADA/DCS systems while maintaining safe and efficient operation of gas processing and NGL recovery systems.
- Perform routine field rounds, equipment inspections, and process readings to monitor plant conditions, including pressure, temperature, flow rates, and gas composition.
- Assist with startup, shutdown, and process adjustments to maintain plant balance, throughput, and product specifications.
- Learn to read, interpret, and redline P&IDs; submit updates for accuracy and continuous improvement.
- Make routine operational changes to maintain safe plant conditions and respond to process upsets or alarms.
- Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and safely isolate equipment using P&IDs, procedures, and equipment manuals.
- Understand and comply with all safety and environmental policies associated with a PSM-regulated gas plant.
- Conduct basic lab sampling and testing for gas, NGL, and produced water to verify quality and specifications.
- Operate and monitor compressor stations (reciprocating and/or centrifugal) and associated systems as required.
- Learn to operate high-risk natural gas compression and dehydration systems, including TEG dehydration equipment.
- Monitor and assist with chemical injection systems (e.g., methanol, glycol, amine as applicable).
- Transfer produced water for disposal and handle condensate/NGL transfers for sale in accordance with 6MAP procedures.
- Troubleshoot equipment and process issues; coordinate with maintenance and operations personnel as needed.
- Maintain accurate logs of production data, equipment performance, downtime, and operational changes.
- Maintain housekeeping standards to ensure a clean, safe, and organized facility.
- Respond to alarms, emergency shutdowns (ESDs), and abnormal conditions quickly and appropriately.
- Willingness to work shift schedules, overtime, and provide operational support across the district as needed.
About you
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities Required
- Prior oil and gas operations or midstream experience preferred
- Mechanical aptitude related to the operation, maintenance, and repair of gas processing, compression, and conditioning equipment
- Basic understanding of instrumentation, controls, and process systems (SCADA/DCS preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs and process flow diagrams
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Willingness to learn, follow direction, and work as part of a team
Work Requirements
- Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime
- Will be required to work relief Plant Operator and Compressor Operator shifts
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds to a height of 42 inches
- Must be able to work in extreme outdoor temperatures and industrial environments
- Must be capable of climbing ladders, working at heights, and performing physical labor
- May be required to work at other gas plants or compressor stations within the district as needed
