SSHE Operations Coordinator

Job Role Summary

SSHE Operations Coordinators provide support for drilling and construction projects by development, coordination, and/or consultation of systematic processes to implement effective SSHE (Safety, Security, Health & Environmental) strategies, monitoring safety and other SSHE processes, as well as establishing SSHE expectations. They verify and support Drilling in meeting SSHE goals and objectives. Additionally, they serve as primary drilling team coordinators, working with personnel on SSHE matters related to drilling and construction, including safety, health and work environment.


Supports the Upstream Oil & Gas, Unconventional, Central Business Unit


Job Responsibilities
  • Provide professional advice and develop safety processes to functional and project leadership teams to assist in achieving our "Nobody Gets Hurt" vision
  • Support projects in safety, health and emergency preparedness, especially in the areas of critical nature deemed as Life Saving Actions (LSA)
  • Engage early, to assess contractor documents according to risk, capability of potential contractor pools and locations
  • Use core competency and expertise to help functional and project teams/safety coaches to develop safety strategies to support successful execution of projects
  • Work closely with SSHE team during Safety program development, including supporting / supplementing contractors where LSA, critical safety programs may have improvement opportunities to ensure project level plans / programs appropriately address high potential risk areas, and meet the requirements by the Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS)
  • Train and mentor contractor/consultant teams on SSH&E topics
  • Communicate and coordinate guidelines for SSH&E expectations, best practices, recognition, and incentive programs
  • Support project SSH&E inspections, assessments, and audits at various project sites
  • Organize and participate in investigation and follow-up of incidents as required, including development of remedial action plans, providing root cause analysis expertise
  • May assume specific OIMS, Safety, and / or Health responsibilities when a designated OIMS, Safety, or Health Advisor is not assigned
  • Provide technical leadership, subject matter expertise and tactical support covering some or all of the following activities:
    • Contractor Safety, Best Practices, Manuals & Guides, Assessments, Process Safety, Life Saving Actions, Safe Choice, etc.
    • Training and development
    • Special projects and initiatives
    • Data analysis - collect, analyze, and report data on leading and lagging indicators on safety performance and or safety initiatives, making recommendations on improvement opportunities and new safety initiatives.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination of ExxonMobil SSH&E awareness, recognition, and incentive programs
  • Support collaboration and synergy capture in SSH&E functions across business line
  • Develop / deliver technical presentations
  • Share safety-related Lessons Learned (internally & externally)
Qualifications and Experience
  • Possess an accredited University degree (Bachelors or Higher) in Engineering, Safety, Fire Protection, or other technical field related to SSH&E is desired
  • Industry recognized certifications a plus (PE, CSP, CIH)
  • Minimum of 10 years in SSH&E-related positions in Drilling Safety and/or oil & gas roles is desired
  • Safety-related experience with drilling, well control, construction, transportation, and incident investigation
  • Thorough knowledge of safety management processes and safety standards, codes and practices
  • Ability and desire to develop successful working relationships with emphasis on effective communications in an integrated project team environment
  • Effective communicator / influencer that can scale messages across multiple levels, from manager to worker
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects and tasks concurrently
  • Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment, including working in team setting with diverse cultures
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • Willingness to work in the function, as well as the field environment
  • Job requires US domestic locations with ability to travel
