What role you will play in our team

ExxonMobil is seeking an experienced Trading Regulatory & Compliance Advisor to join its London-based trading and compliance team. This role offers an excellent opportunity to work at the heart of global energy markets, supporting regulatory compliance across crude oil, refined products, gas, LNG and derivatives trading activities.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring regulatory developments, overseeing compliance frameworks, supporting regulatory reporting obligations, and providing compliance advice to commercial trading teams. The position offers significant exposure to trading strategies, senior leadership, and evolving regulatory requirements impacting global energy markets.

What you will do

  • Ensure compliance with applicable UK, European and international regulations governing physical and financial energy trading activities.
  • Coordinate regulatory reporting requirements across crude, products, gas and derivatives trading businesses.
  • Review new trading products, transactions and business initiatives, assessing regulatory and compliance implications.
  • Develop, implement and maintain compliance policies, procedures and monitoring programmes.
  • Conduct trade surveillance and compliance monitoring to identify potential regulatory risks and market conduct concerns.
  • Monitor developments relating to REMIT, MAR, MiFID II, EMIR, UK FCA regulations, sanctions, and other relevant commodity trading regulations.
  • Support the preparation and submission of regulatory filings and reports.
  • Partner with commercial, risk, legal and operations teams to ensure compliance requirements are embedded within business activities.
  • Deliver compliance training and regulatory awareness programmes to stakeholders.
  • Maintain documentation, governance records, compliance plans and reporting procedures.
  • Support internal and external audits, regulatory reviews and compliance investigations where required.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, Law, Accounting, Risk Management or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in compliance, regulatory affairs, risk management or financial crime within energy commodities trading.
  • Strong understanding of physical and paper commodity markets, including crude oil, refined products, LNG, natural gas and derivatives.
  • Working knowledge of UK and European regulatory frameworks, including REMIT, MiFID II, MAR, EMIR and FCA requirements.
  • Experience in regulatory reporting, trade surveillance and compliance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with commodity trading and risk management systems.
  • Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively in a fast-paced trading environment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Professional compliance, risk or regulatory qualifications are advantageous.
