ExxonMobil in Malaysia
In Malaysia, we host a global business and technology center in Kuala Lumpur that provides high-level information technology and engineering expertise to ExxonMobil’s Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses worldwide. In the upstream, we have interests in two Production Sharing Contracts with PETRONAS, while in the Product Solutions business, we supply a portfolio of specialty chemical products to the marketplace.
What role you will play in the team
- You will be part of our exciting and rapidly expanding Kuala Lumpur Environment team working and collaborating on a global scale providing deep technical insights and support to ExxonMobil’s Product Solutions business
- As an experienced advance engineer in water and wastewater, you will provide engineering expertise to support across our global operations including new projects focusing on raw water treatment, wastewater treatment, and water reduction & reuse initiatives.
What you will do
The Water Engineer - Advanced is expected to apply engineering skills, knowledge of business and technology, and leadership skills to:
- Provide technical support for asset monitoring and performance analysis across ExxonMobil global manufacturing facilities, with a focus on raw water and wastewater treatment systems, steam and cooling water systems.
- Partner with site teams to troubleshoot and identify opportunities to improve performance, enhance operational efficiency, reliability, and cost competitiveness.
- Lead or support capital projects from concept development through design, engineering and startup of water, wastewater and reuse treatment solutions.
- Collaborate with global technical experts to research, evaluate, develop, and/or deploy innovative solutions for raw water treatment, wastewater treatment, and water reduction & reuse.
- Visits to operating sites and international travel as required, not limited to support operations, project execution and stakeholder engagements.
The Water Engineer - Advanced will have a regional impact and assist with the development of both functional and behavioral skills of less experienced water engineers
About you
- B.S. in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
- Minimum of 5–10+ years of experience in designing, developing, or operating raw water and industrial wastewater treatment solutions; experience in the oil and gas or petroleum industry is an asset.
- Knowledge of water chemistry, raw water and industrial wastewater treatment fundamentals.
- Demonstrated experience in the operation, design, troubleshooting, or start-up of raw water and/or industrial wastewater treatment systems
- Hands-on experience working directly with plant operators and site teams

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to evaluate, identify root causes and implement practical, data-driven solutions to solve complex problems and implement improvements.
- Fluency in English is required both written and communication skill.
- Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule to support multi-cultural global teams, including participation in early morning and evening virtual meetings.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
