ExxonMobil in Malaysia

 

In Malaysia, we host a global business and technology center in Kuala Lumpur that provides high-level information technology and engineering expertise to ExxonMobil’s Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses worldwide. In the upstream, we have interests in two Production Sharing Contracts with PETRONAS, while in the Product Solutions business, we supply a portfolio of specialty chemical products to the marketplace

What role you will play in our team

The Advanced Hindsight Economist Engineer is part of a centralized team responsible for validating production planning models and performing production performance lookbacks for integrated manufacturing sites. This role ensures site operations are accurately represented in planning models, identifies performance gaps and unrealized value, and recommends improvement opportunities by collaborating closely with site economists, coordinators, and model improvement engineers. At the Advanced level, the HSE operates independently and mentors newer team members.

What you will do

- Extract and integrate data from multiple systems (PAR, 4323, RIOS, Seeq, ORION, PSA)
- Execute monthly OMV and production performance lookbacks independently
- Configure, enhance, and sustain OMV and Lookback tools and workflows
- Identify, track, and analyze model bias and prediction gaps
- Analyze complex cases, troubleshoot infeasibilities, and perform deep‑dive P3 server analysis
- Develop advanced site and circuit case structures, incorporating model releases and MOC updates
- Support complex refining sites with potential chemicals integration
- Apply strong knowledge of site economics to connect drivers with Lookback findings
- Deliver clear insights on profitability, execution gaps, and improvement opportunities
- Communicate findings effectively to business partners and lead site‑facing discussions
- Extract key learnings from crude and profitability hindsight
- Provide coaching and onboarding support for new HSE team members

About you

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree / MSc. / MEng in Chemical Engineering.
  • More than 5 years of experience working in Refinery/Petrochemical manufacturing site, including production planning and scheduling. 
  • Experience with planning tools (e.g. LP models) and manufacturing economics knowledge preferred.
