Job Role Description

The Intermediates & Synthetics (I&S) Principal Engineer combines strategic leadership with deep expertise in their technology disciplines in areas such as linear alpha and branched olefins, higher alcohols, synthetic basestocks, plasticizers, or oxy fluids. This leader leverages their knowledge to influence cross-functional interfaces and decisions at the technology, business, and manufacturing management levels
This role delivers value in one or more of the following areas:
- Understanding the competitive landscape for their technical discipline and articulating the relative competitive position and what is needed to change it
- Ensuring that the technical capability development in their discipline is robust
- Developing and deploying technology solutions, including first-of-a-kind processes as well as technology improvements to existing processes, to address business needs
- Delivering projects to improve existing manufacturing sites and deploy new technologies
The Intermediates & Synthetics (I&S) Principal Engineer is a credible technical leader and can effectively communicate with both internal and external partners to deliver maximum value

Job Role Responsibilities

Strategic Business Outcomes: Pursues strategic business outcomes by identifying global opportunities and exploring adjacent technologies
Technology and Solution Delivery: Identifies, selects, and delivers technologies and solutions to maximize I&S business value. Analyzes and recommends innovative options for technology programs, new plant construction, competitive responses, and feedstock and product selection and interchangeability
Intellectual Property and Competitive Intelligence: Manages intellectual property and conducts competitive intelligence assessments to stay current with competitive process technologies and economics
Capability Health Support: Drives capability health assessments and succession planning, developing future technical leaders in their discipline through training and mentorship
Global and External Interfaces: Interfaces globally with business line and manufacturing leadership, as well as externally with key partners such as vendors and industry associations
Knowledge Retention: Leads the global process technology network in their primary discipline and is responsible for knowledge retention
