About you

The Technical Lead – Pipeline & Terminal Field Execution is accountable for safe, effective, and disciplined field execution of pipeline and terminal projects. The Tech Lead acts as the owner’s representative in the field, ensuring projects are executed safely, to specification, and in alignment with planned scope, schedule, and operational readiness requirements. The role bridges project management, construction, and operations by translating technical requirements into safe, efficient field execution.

 

Preferred Qualifications

Experience

  1. 5+ years of experience in pipeline, terminal, or midstream construction.
  2. Proven experience leading field execution for capital or major maintenance projects.
  3. Strong background in construction supervision, contractor oversight, or field project leadership.

Technical & Practical Knowledge

  1. Solid understanding of:
    1. Pipeline and terminal construction practices
    2. Mechanical, civil, and piping work scopes
    3. Construction sequencing and field logistics
  2. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications (engineering authorship not required).
  3. Familiarity with pipeline safety regulations and industry codes as they apply to construction execution.

Leadership & Interpersonal Skills

  1. Strong presence in the field with the ability to lead diversified contractor workforces.
  2. Excellent problem‑solving and decision‑making skills in dynamic field environments.
  3. Clear communicator capable of translating technical requirements into executable work.
  4. Comfortable enforcing standards while maintaining productive contractor relationships.

Preferred Attributes

  1. Prior experience working for or with major owner/operators (e.g., ExxonMobil).
  2. Experience with brownfield/greenfield construction, tie‑ins, and live‑facility work.
  3. Background in construction supervision, inspection, or operations support.
  4. Familiarity with startup, commissioning, and handover processes.

What you will do

Field Leadership & Construction Oversight

  1. Serve as the primary field technical authority and execution lead for assigned pipeline and terminal projects.
  2. Oversee day‑to‑day construction activities performed by EPCs, construction contractors, and specialty vendors.
  3. Ensure field execution aligns with approved project scope, drawings, specifications, and work plans.
  4. Be physically present in the field to observe work, resolve issues, and guide execution decisions.

Contractor Management

  1. Provide leadership, direction, and oversight to construction contractors.
  2. Monitor contractor performance related to:
    1. Safety
    2. Quality of workmanship
    3. Schedule adherence
    4. Productivity
  3. Lead daily and weekly coordination meetings with contractors.
  4. Address field issues, non‑conformances, and change requests in coordination with project management.

Safety & Operations Integrity

  1. Champion ExxonMobil’s Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) at the site level.
  2. Ensure compliance with:
    1. Safe work practices
    2. Permit‑to‑work systems
    3. Environmental and regulatory requirements
  3. Intervene proactively to stop unsafe work and reinforce safety expectations.

Technical Field Execution

  1. Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and work packages to guide field execution.
  2. Resolve constructability and sequencing issues in collaboration with project managers and discipline SMEs.
  3. Verify installation quality for:
    1. Pipelines
    2. Terminals and tanks
    3. Pump stations
    4. Valves, metering, and mechanical equipment
  4. Support testing, commissioning, and turnover activities.

Schedule, Cost, and Change Management

  1. Identify execution risks, field constraints, and potential delays early.
  2. Support schedule recovery, resequencing, and work prioritization.
  3. Assist with scope clarification, field change documentation, and management of change (MOC) processes.
  4. Provide accurate field progress updates to project leadership.

Stakeholder Coordination

  1. Interface closely with:
    1. Project Managers
    2. Construction Managers
    3. Operations and Maintenance teams
    4. Integrity, inspection, and quality personnel
  2. Ensure construction aligns with operational expectations and startup readiness.

Pre-Employment Testing Guidance

 

This Operations and Mechanical (O&M) position requires pre-employment testing. After applying you will receive a pop up giving you access to the assessment. You may take the assessment at that time or utilize the instructions below to access the assessment at a time convenient for you.  Note that the assessment must be completed by the deadline in order for you to be considered for the O&M position for which you have applied.

 

IMPORTANT

 

The O&M test has been revised.  Effective December 1, 2021 ALL candidates must complete the revised assessment.  Even if you have tested within the last 365 days (passed or failed), if you tested before December 1, 2021, you must complete the revised assessment to be considered for this O&M opportunity.  Failure to complete the assessment by the deadline will result in your disqualification from consideration for this position.  The assessment is the same for all O&M requisitions.  If you have completed the assessment after December 1, 2021, your assessment results will be mapped to this requisition when you try to access the test. Test passed candidates will be screened by the hiring team and a subset invited for interview.  Note that a satisfactory result on the assessment does not guarantee an interview.
