What Role You Will Play in Our Team
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our Engineering team. The successful candidate will bring experience in mechanical design principles, engineering codes, industry best practices, reliability improvement, and operational support. This role will be responsible for supporting complex mechanical engineering projects, developing and reviewing mechanical designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications, as well as conducting risk assessments, root cause failure analysis, and technical evaluations to ensure safe and reliable operations. The ideal candidate is a hands-on engineer who combines strong technical expertise with practical field experience.
What You Will Do
- Provide mechanical engineering support to daily plant operations (e.g. modifications, upgrades, new construction and applications); identifies solutions and completes engineering for base assets.
- Review Management of Change documents and engineering specifications, requirements and design appraisals
- Conduct, review and provide input for Fitness for Service recommendations.
- Assist facilities with risk management activities to ensure compliance with Operation Integrity Management System expectations
- Initiate/support changes in technology or work practices to improve plant reliability
- Assist projects in meeting safety, environmental and capital cost objectives
- Provide technical support throughout the development phase of projects from conceptual to final design/execution
- Develop scope of work for conceptual studies, develop technical specifications, assist in contractor selection, and steward contractor's work throughout project execution.
- Review engineering work and provide consultations on local code of practices and regulations.
- Maintain mechanical design, engineering standards and manuals
- Interpret and explain company practices and industry standards and how they apply to plant facilities and projects
- Support troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and implementation of corrective actions for equipment and system issues.
Skills & Qualifications
- Mechanical Engineering Degree and Professional Designations (P. Eng) with 5+ years of experience
- Knowledge and experience of mechanical design principles and industry best practices.
- Knowledgable with following Codes & Standards: ASME Section VIII, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.1, ASME Section I, CSA B51, CSA Z662, API 510/570, API 579, and ABSA requirements.
- Experience preparing engineering calculations, technical specifications, equipment selection, and design documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to support projects from concept through detailed design, construction, commissioning, and operational support.
- Understanding of risk assessment, safety regulations, quality standards, and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications & Experience
- Field experience and knowledge of Oil and Gas, Petrochemicals, or in-situ operations
- Proficiency with engineering design and analysis software for fitness for service, piping analysis, and pressure vessel design, such as: Caesar II, PV Elite / Compress, Plant Manager/Sage Plus, BechtFFS, and Signal FFS.
- Project management and leadership experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Location
This position is located in Edmonton, where our technical team is based. The Edmonton team provides support to both the Kearl and Cold Lake operations from Edmonton
