JOB FUNCTION:
The Safety Advisor role in GP SSHE is primarily responsible for providing pre-FEED (Front End Engineering Design) planning associated with personnel safety, security, health/medical, emergency response, and Corporate SSHE Management System (OIMS). Also provides technical support and surveillance during FEED, Detailed Engineering and the execution phase. Utilizes and maintains systems, tools, and processes associated with OIMS and ExxonMobil Capital Project Management Systems (EMCAPS). Serves as Personnel Safety Management System (PSMS) champion within GP-SSHE.
Responsibilities and duties
- Work independently and with early project teams (pre-FEED) and project teams (during FEED, Detailed Engineering & Execution phase) to support project Safety Security & Health (SSH)/OIMS planning and execution. It includes but not limited to followings:
- Developing Project SSHE Plans
- Supporting development & implementation of working procedures such as confined space entry, work permitting, working at heights, electrical isolation, lifting & rigging, excavation safety etc.
- Lead or participate in administrative processes like PSMS (Start Work Checks, toolbox talks, Last Minute Risk Assessment (LMRA) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
- Build relationships with project team contacts to proactively anticipate and address project SSH/OIMS needs
- Provide SSH/OIMS guidance to functional and project teams based on OIMS and EMCAPS expectations
- Develop, maintain, and continually upgrade SSH/OIMS systems, tools, and processes utilized for project planning and execution
- Develop project-specific SSH/OIMS planning deliverables that meet OIMS and EMCAPS requirements
- Serve as PSMS champion while helping project teams plan, implement, and continually improve PSMS performance
- Support contractor management, including contract language development, contractor selection, and contractor monitoring
- Provide SSH/OIMS technical support, troubleshooting, and coaching/mentoring during project planning and execution
- Provide surveillance of SSH/OIMS during project execution to ensure project teams are satisfying key OIMS and EMCAPS expectations
- Facilitate functional and project specific improvement initiatives that positively impact culture, systems/processes/tools, and performance
- Support SSH/OIMS related training and onboarding of company personnel
- Support incident investigations
- Interface with Enterprise Process Owners (EPOs) to ensure alignment with corporate goals, objectives, and focus areas
- Share SSH/OIMS best practices and learnings with projects
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCES
- Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering or Science preferably in Safety/Health
- Safety certifications preferred (e.g., CSP, NEBOSH)
- Preferred 8-15 years of experience in oil & gas and petrochemical sector (Minimum 5 years of experience is must)
- Preferred experience 8-10 years in Safety, Security or Health discipline (Minimum 5 years of experience)
- Preferred to have familiarity with Human and Organizational Performance concepts and IOGP Start Work Checks
- Maintains a high degree of ethical conduct
- Willingness to travel (business trips) and periodically relocate to project locations
- Proficient in primary Microsoft Office programs, etc.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; persuasive with strong business perspective
- Adaptable to changing priorities
