JOB FUNCTION:

 

The Environmental, Regulatory & Socioeconomic (ER&S) Advisor provides key support to enable project concept selection, design, and execution.  The Advisor is responsible for carrying out early-stage environmental aspect assessments (EAA), leading environmental & social impact assessment studies (ESHIA), developing regulatory permitting roadmap for the projects, implementing best practices and standards, identifying all requirements and working with the project to ensure permitting and ongoing regulatory compliance are achieved.  The Advisor works closely with many functions to achieve objectives and needs to have a sound technical background and the ability to communicate / influence effectively.

 

Responsibilities and duties

 

  • Work independently and with early project teams to support Environmental, Regulatory & Socioeconomic (ER&S) planning and execution
    • Performing EAA/ESHIA/Regulatory Permitting Roadmap
    • Developing Environmental Management and Monitoring Plans
    • Supporting development of socio-economic development plan, community engagement plan, grievance management plan etc.
  • Build relationships with project team contacts to proactively anticipate and address ER&S needs
  • Develop, maintain, and continually upgrade project ER&S systems, tools, and processes utilized for planning and execution such as EAA, Project Environmental Standards (PES) etc.
  • Develop project-specific ER&S planning deliverables that meet internal requirements such as
    • Preparation & implementation of Environmental & Socioeconomic Management Plan, Regulatory Compliance Plan, Waste Management Plan etc.
    • Support the preparation of Spill Response and other Emergency Response Plans,
    • Planning and execution of public consultation programs,
    • Monitoring of ER&S performance
  • Support contractor management, including contract language development, contractor selection, and contractor monitoring
  • Provide ER&S technical support and coaching/mentoring during project planning and execution
  • Facilitate functional and project specific improvement initiatives that positively impact culture, systems/processes/tools, and performance
  • Support ER&S related training and onboarding of company and project personnel
  • Share ER&S best practices and learnings with projects
  • Perform environmental and socioeconomic relative risk screenings for projects

 

Required knowledge, qualifications, skills and experiences

 

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Engineering or Science preferred in Environment Science/Natural Resource Management/Social Sciences
  • Preferred 8-15 years of experience in oil & gas and petrochemical sector (Minimum 5 years of experience is must)
  • Preferred 8-10 years of experience in Environment Management (Minimum 5 years of experience is must)
  • Maintains a high degree of ethical conduct
  • Willingness to travel (business trips) and periodically relocate to project locations
  • Proficient in primary Microsoft Office programs, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; persuasive with strong business perspective
  • Adaptable to changing priorities
