Job description

Reporting to Technical Leader, technical contact engineers are responsible for monitoring and improving the performance of process unit operations to produce products in a safe, reliable, and energy efficient manner at the lowest possible cost.

 

Examples of specific responsibilities:

  • Share responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of Sarnia Chemical Plant producing approximately 850 kTa of finished products.
  • Act as Technical Contact on Business Teams, including daily participation in Business Team sessions.  Ensure Business Team objectives aligned with functional objectives. Perform daily troubleshooting, coordinate and execute test runs, review procedures as required, and actively participate in a culture of process and personal safety.
  • Owner of operating envelopes (limits) for safe, reliable and energy efficient operation consistent with recognized design and engineering standards. Maintain, measure and evaluate performance versus key unit performance indicators.
  • Establish, maintain, measure and evaluate environmental operating envelopes, including the development of the Environmental Aspects Inventory (EAI) and the Environmental Release Control Plans (ERCP's).  Implement and steward closure of gaps to ERCP's.
  • Accountable for identification and implementation of optimizations within established operating envelopes.
  • Provide data input and engineering judgment on inputs to environmental release calculations including government reporting and substance accounting.
  • Provide input to monthly Supply Chain process.
  • Support the development of the Environmental Business Plan and aids/leads closure of items as assigned.
  • Support the hazard operability assessment, safe operating committee, reliability operating committee and other site programs as required.
  • Support annual business plan process and inputs into Business Team mechanical plan priorities.
  • Responsible for generation of the catalyst/chemical annual plan, and stewardship of performance versus plan.
  • Participate in Technology reviews and meetings, and Network meetings as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering, or equivalent, as certified by an accredited/recognized institution. 
  • 0-5 years Refinery, Chemical Plant or closely related engineering experience.
  • High degree of analytical and technical ability, able to communicate complex technical data clearly.
