Maintenance Electrician

Job description

As a site Maintenance Electrician in Sarnia, you will maintain, install, troubleshoot and repair all types of electrical, electronic, control and power systems with due personal regard for safety, following verbal and/or written orders from support site operations.

 

Job responsibilities
 

  • Typical electrical tasks include some or all of the following:
  • Lockout of all low, medium and high voltage equipment, as required
  • Critical electrical switching required to provide an electrically safe work condition
  • Switchgear maintenance, single phase or three phase, up to 230kV
  • Substation preventative maintenance
  • PLC maintenance and programming
  • VFD – installation, programming and troubleshooting
  • UPS – general maintenance PM’s and troubleshooting
  • Electric heat tracing installation and maintenance
  • Installation of electrical cabling/wiring, as required
  • Commissioning and calibration of electrical protection systems
  • Start up and commissioning of electrical capital projects

Qualifications:

 

Academic

  • Electrical Engineering Technologist / Technician diploma considered an asset but an equivalent combination of training and experience is also acceptable
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.

 

Other

  • 5 years or greater related industry experience in a similar position is required
  • Certified 309A Construction & Maintenance Electrician or 442A Industrial Electrician will be an asset
  • Must maintain a valid Class 'G' driver's license
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
  • Able to work individually as well as in a team situation with minimal supervision
  • Able to read and interpret electrical single line drawings, protection & control schematics, wiring diagrams, relay logic
  • Able to estimate, plan and execute work
  • Capable of providing supervision of other employees and contractors
  • Able to perform troubleshooting and solve problems in the field
  • Ability to consistently follow safe work practices, basic maintenance procedures and enthusiastically contribute to a safe work culture
  • Knowledgeable on relevant safety procedures, practices, codes and legislation and is conversant with rights and obligations under the OHSA regulations
  • Good working knowledge of Windows based programs (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Experience using electrical test equipment such as the Baker AWA, Doble or equivalent relay test equipment, Vanguard breaker timing tester, Megger insulation resistance testing, DLRO (Ductor) contact resistance test equipment, multimeter, potential indicator, Transformer & Breaker testing  etc.
