Instrumentation & Control Technician

Job description

As an Instrumentation & Control Technician you will maintain, install, troubleshoot, repair and calibrate all types of field instrumentation, analyzers, control valves and DCS systems with due personal regard for safety, following verbal or written orders from support site operations. 

Typical instrument tasks include some or all of the following:

  • Troubleshooting, repair and calibration of pneumatic and electronic instruments and control valves
  • Preventative maintenance and programming of Industrial control systems
  • Maintenance and repair of process stream analyzers and sample systems
  • Checkout and commissioning of new installations



  • Certified 447A Instrumentation & Control Technician an asset
  • Instrument and Control Engineering Technologist diploma and/or relevant industry experience are required
  • High school diploma or equivalent is mandatory



  • Three years or greater related experience in a similar position.
  • Must maintain a valid Class 'G' driver's license and safe driving record
  • Computer skills are a necessity with a good working knowledge of Windows based programs
  • Able to work individually as well as in a team situation with minimal supervision
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
  • Able to read and interpret schematics, loop drawings
  • Able to estimate, plan and execute work
  • Knowledgeable on relevant safety procedures, practices, codes and legislation and is conversant with rights and obligations under the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) regulations.
  • Familiarity with the following technology would be an asset:
  • Fisher & Masoneilan control valves and smart positioners
  • Rosemount, Honeywell, Vega & E+H field instrumentation
  • Honeywell TDC2000, TDC3000, HPM, C300, Experion
  • Siemens Quadlog PLC, Allen Bradley PLC, Modicon PLC, HIMA SIS, Triconex SIS
  • Siemens Maxum / Applied Automation Gas Chromatographs, ABB Gas Chromatograms, Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems, Ametec/Thermox and Servomex O2 analyzers, Ametek/Western Research analyzers, Rosemount and other pH meters
  • LAR TOD and TOC analyzers and Turbidity Analyzers
  • Knowledge of SAP
