Job description

The successful candidate will be a member of a team that is responsible for strategic planning of the Kearl Oil Sands Project

  • Be a safety leader – support and adhere by all standards and producers and operate with safety as a value.
  • Responsible for long range mine & tailings plans and technical aspects of regulatory applications & reporting
  • Technical guidance and support in continuous improvements studies including integration of mine closure and reclamation with the mine plan
  • Participate in safety, health and environmental assessments
  • Provide leadership, coaching and mentoring to junior staff


Key deliverables

  • Life of Mine Development Plans including:
  • Mine production profiles
  • Mine ore & waste schedules
  • Waste & tailings material balance
  • Haulage plan
  • Mine mobile equipment fleet requirements
  • Pit & structure designs
  • Integration with closure & reclamation plan
  • Economic evaluations
  • Support reserves reporting requirements
  • Support regulatory and commercial submissions & applications
  • Boundary studies and analysis between Imperial and adjacent leases
  • Economic optimization studies in support of continuous improvement studies



  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is a minimum requirement



  • Valid class 5 driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Journeyman certificate in Instrumentation or Dual with Electrical. Preference will be given to candidates who possess either Instrumentation Technician certificates or an Instrumentation Technology Diploma accompanied with a Journeyman's certificate
  • This position follows a Two week rotational Schedule.

This position will be a full time fly-in, fly-out camp based role to the Kearl site with a 14 days on/14 days off work schedule. Bussing is available from Fort McMurray, and flights are available from either Calgary or Edmonton. Relocation assistance to Fort McMurray, Calgary or Edmonton is available if required. Bus transportation is also available to Kearl site from Fort McMurray at the beginning and end of each shift rotation for Fort McMurray residents

Kearl operations will provide safe, secure and quiet accommodation near to the worksite for employees working on rotating work schedules. Facilities include a private room/washroom for each employee.
