Job description


Reporting to the Kearl Facilities Maintenance Supervisor, the MSF Facilities Electrical Apprentice will be responsible for the maintenance of a variety of facilities and equipment in a fully functional oil sands operation. 



  • Demonstrate the personal commitment to achieving “Nobody Gets Hurt”.
  • Adhere to all safety, health, and environmental work site policies & procedures.
  • Follow all electrical building code requirements.
  • Under the supervision of a licensed Journeyperson, maintain & repair a wide variety of electrical systems 120V – 600V and beyond.
  • SAP notification entry as well as E-Maintenance entry requests.
  • Assist in the development of maintenance strategies & best practices for our facilities as required.
  • Assist in scoping isolation requirements.
  • Attest permits and ICC isolations once trained. 
  • Maintain records on inspections, maintenance repairs, and work completed.
  • Actively participate in all work-related training programs and activities
  • Support the planning & scheduling of contract maintenance/projects as required.
  • Keep the Maintenance Supervisor informed of facility and equipment issues as they arise.




  • High school diploma is a minimum requirement
  • Experience in a production environment (Oil Sands experience preferred)
  • Preemployment training through a recognized Technical College would be considered an asset.
  • First year though fourth year industry training would be an asset but not essential. Training will be provided to suitable candidates. 



  • Valid class 5 driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Highly motivated with an ability to work independently when required.
  • Basic computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of programs.
  • Good team and communication skills
  • Knowledge of maintenance practices.
  • Demonstrated professional work ethic.
  • Able to work a rotational assignment (14 on, 14 off) 
  • Work schedule: Full-time position


Start date: Q1, 2023


Work term: 48 Months
