What role you will play in our team
We are seeking a skilled and safety-conscious Welding Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will perform a variety of welding and fabrication tasks in support of equipment repair, component rebuilds, and structural projects. This role demands a high level of technical knowledge, attention to detail, and adherence to health and safety standards, especially in heavy industrial or mining environments.
What you will do
- Perform various types of welding (SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW) on ferrous and non-ferrous materials
- Interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and welding procedure specifications (WPS)
- Fabricate, repair, and modify heavy equipment components, structural frames, and pressure vessels
- Operate welding equipment, grinders, torches, plasma cutters, and other metal fabrication tools
- Conduct pre-weld inspections and post-weld quality assurance, including visual and non-destructive testing (as required)
- Maintain accurate documentation of welds, repairs, and completed work orders
- Follow site-specific safety and environmental protocols, including hazard identification and job hazard analysis (JHA)
- Collaborate with engineers, inspectors, and maintenance teams to ensure quality and efficiency
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to welding process optimization and workplace organization (e.g., 5S, Lean)
About you
Skills and Qualifications
- Journeyperson Welder (Red Seal certification)
- Completion of a recognized Welding Technician program or equivalent technical training
- Valid Alberta B Pressure certification (asset, depending on scope)
- Valid CSTS, WHMIS, and H2S Alive (site-specific tickets may be required)
- Minimum 2–5 years of welding experience in industrial, oil sands, or fabrication environments
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, P&IDs, and fabrication drawings
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
- Physical ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in a physically demanding environment
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
- Experience with robotic or automated welding systems
- Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
- Experience in overlay welding or hard-facing processes
- Knowledge of metallurgy and weld material behavior under stress
- Working Conditions:
- Rotational or shift-based work required (e.g. 14/14, days/nights)
- May involve work in shop or field environments, including remote mine or oil sands sites
- Overtime and weekend work may be required during shutdowns or peak periods

- This position will be a full time fly-in, fly-out camp based role to the Kearl site with a 14 days on/14 days off work schedule. Bussing is available from Fort McMurray, and flights are available from either Calgary or Edmonton. Relocation assistance to Fort McMurray, Calgary or Edmonton is available if required. Bus transportation is also available to Kearl site from Fort McMurray at the beginning and end of each shift rotation for Fort McMurray residents.
