Job description

The Strathcona Refinery is looking for a laboratory technologist to work in one of two areas - Fuels or Asphalt Lab. The Laboratory operates typically 7 days a week with typical hours being 7am to 3:30pm Monday through Friday. Depending on the area, you may be responsible to qualify and test manufactured products and support refinery operations at various stages in the refining process.


As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Have the opportunity to manage the workload in your work area and perform daily testing required by the refinery, while working in a supportive environment.
  • Be provided with on job training by an experienced employee; this will include test methods, and coaching on daily tasks to ensure your area is operating efficiently.
  • Manage workload and conduct laboratory testing per testing protocols and test methods.
  • Enter data into lab information system to document results, and communicate those results if necessary.
  • Participate in company networking opportunities including the Networking Advisory Program (NAP),  which hosts regular informal networking events between early career hires and more experienced employees, and the Women’s Interest Network (WIN), fostering professional growth, personal development and supporting advancement of women at all levels of the company, from trades to senior management.



  • High school diploma, or equivalent is required for this position.
  • Completion of 2nd year Chemical Technology Diploma Program or equivalent post-secondary education.
  • Driver’s license and a safe driving record are required for this position.
