What role you will play in our team
The Strathcona Refinery is looking for Electrical Engineering Technology students to work in our maintenance department. The assignment will include assisting the Electricians in maintaining the safe and efficient operation of Strathcona Refinery equipment.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Understanding and abiding by all safety rules and standards, reporting hazards and assuming responsibility for the safe operation of your assigned unit, and tools assigned to you.
- Understanding and abiding by applicable government regulations, e.g. Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System.
- Participating in safety programs, safety meetings and attending training sessions; completing self- development courses.
- Assisting maintenance Electricians in day-today activities in operating units including preventative maintenance task as well as repairing equipment.
- Such activities can include working on equipment such as but not limited to power and control cabling, electrical infrastructure, EHT systems, remote actuated valves, etc.
- Participating in team meetings and activities.
- Identifying improvements to streamline unit monitoring processes.
- Assuring established loss control and environmental standards are followed while demonstrating responsibility for personal safety and the safety of others.
What you will do
As the successful candidate, you will:
- Gain exposure to the design, operation and maintenance in a refinery.
- Access specialized safety training including H2S, respirator use, and fall protection.
- Experience a petrochemical processing facility working with inspectors, boilermakers, welders, refinery power engineers, technical engineers, reliability engineers, work execution planners, and refinery management personnel.
- Gain valuable industry experience that will relate to the second year of Electrical engineering technology diploma.
- Be provided with on-the-job training by experienced employees.
- Participate in company networking opportunities including the Wage Networking Advisory Program (WNAP), which hosts regular informal networking events between early career hires and more experienced employees, and the Women’s Interest Network (WIN), fostering professional growth, personal development and supporting advancement of women at all levels of the company, from trades to senior management.
About you
Skills and Qualifications
- Must be enrolled and attending 1st year Electrical engineering technology diploma students.

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
- Sound reasoning ability, good communication and interpersonal skills, high level of self-initiative, comfortable working within a team environment.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Successful candidate will be required to become a member of Unifor, Local 3000 CA.
