Imperial Occupational Health services are fully integrated to provide occupational health surveillance, disability case management, and workers’ compensation coordination. The Occupational Health Nurse provides support for the delivery of Imperial’s Occupational Health programs and services to various business units.  The OHN is expected to perform clinical assessments as required by the company and as detailed in their regulated scope of practice. OHN should be in good standing with the provincial licensing organization of the primary work location, and others as required. 
Occupational Health Nurses administratively report to the Clinical Coordinator (West/East).

 

 

Job responsibilities:

 

 

  • Provides and documents services within the professional scope and standards of license specific to health care of employees and other workers, as determined by Occupational Health Division Management.
  • Conducts clinical assessments on employees to assist and/or determine fitness for work in Safety Sensitive and Specified Employee positions, and other Occupational Evaluations as directed
  • Assesses the work environment for actual and/or potential health hazards and make recommendations to the business to help mitigate or control the hazard
  • Collects data about the health status of the employee through an occupational health history, physical assessment, and appropriate laboratory measurements
  • Assesses clinical tests and results, arranges follow up assessment, refers for further investigation, and communicates the results, as required.
  • Determines employees’ fitness-for-work through clinical  and evidence based assessments and in collaboration with the employee, company nursing staff, physicians and  other health care professionals  
  • Records health data and maintains accurate employee health records
  • Conducts clinical assessments to assist with the determination of fitness-for-work
  • Complies with health screening procedures and recommendations as required by global and local Occupational Health evaluation standards
  • Participates in the administration of the health centre, including but not limited to scheduling of occupational examinations, inventorying of medications,  tracking and management of equipment and ordering supplies
  • Support Disability Case Management of employees’ illnesses and injuries if needed in conjunction with the company disability vendor and department advisors
  • Provides advice to employees on prevention of illness and injury, health and wellness, and community health services
  • Provides emergency treatment for injury and illness and notifies the business line in accordance with company guidelines
  • Collaborates and communicates with management on relevant occupational health issues.
  • Develops and delivers occupational health and wellness programs as required by local/site sponsorship 
  • Acts as the site contact for Occupational Health and provides Operations Integrity Management System support and activities

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

Academic:

 

  • Nursing Degree, Advanced Nursing Degree, Nurse Practitioner Degree

 

 

Other:

 

 

  • Current, or eligible for, unrestricted registration with provincial or territorial  nursing licensing organization for primary work location
  • At least 3-5 years of related work experience is preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency via professional certification in occupational health (COHN(C))
  • Recognized expertise in applied clinical health risk assessment and fitness for work determination
  • Additional training on the completion of Occupational Health Assessments will be required.
  • Strong clinical, interpersonal, analytical and planning skills.
  • Advanced computer literacy and strong program management skills.

Eligibility to work in Canada
