What role you will play in our team
The Control Systems function at Imperial’s Cold Lake operations focuses on maintaining and optimizing district control systems infrastructure, including supporting plant and field process control. Responsibilities typically include participating in server upgrades, network development, and improving overall control system sustainability, along with practicing strong cybersecurity habits such as patching, antivirus management, and access control. The role also involves collaborating with Controls System Experts, Operations, and Maintenance teams, as well as analyzing data to identify and mitigate process control issues.
What you will do
- Control Systems Maintenance & Optimization:
- Maintain and optimize district control systems infrastructure across plant and field operations. Identify process control issues through data analysis and develop mitigation strategies.
- Systems Upgrades & Technical Projects:
- Lead in projects to upgrade servers and develop networks supporting control system performance and sustainability. Apply design fundamentals in selecting, developing, and applying data management solutions related to control systems.
- Cybersecurity & System Protection:
- Oversee and guide strong cybersecurity hygiene across the control systems environment, including patch and antivirus governance, access control enforcement, and ensuring teams follow established protection standards.
- Collaboration & Communication:
- Communicate effectively with Control Systems Experts, Operations, and Maintenance/Trades regarding ongoing projects and system status. This includes written communication (email, presentations) and verbal communication in team settings.
About you
Skills and Qualifications
- Education Requirements; Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
- Technical Skills: Control system administration and strong interest/aptitude in working with technical systems. Understanding of networking, virtualization, Microsoft domain architecture and operating systems. Ability to analyze and troubleshoot process control system issues
- Cybersecurity Awareness: Knowledge of and ability to practice good cybersecurity habits (e.g., patching, antivirus updates, access control).
- Communication & Collaboration Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to collaborate with Controls System Experts, Operations teams, and Maintenance/Trades.
- Personal Attributes: Tech-savvy, motivated, and comfortable working in a strong team environment. Passionate about safety, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
