What role will you play in our team
The Process Control Technician’s primary role is to provide technical support to Cold Lake in the areas of CMX, PLC’s, Experion and passive Seismic.
What you will do
- Perform system custodian role as defined by the IOL Process control practices.
- Responsible to meet with customers to ensure work prioritization is current and correct.
- Repair and maintain existing field controls equipment. (not PLCs)
- To maintain and provide technical support to Cold Lake in the Field areas of CMX, PLCs, Experion, and Passive Seismic.
- Assist in resolving day to day issues, Management of Change for field controls, project development, design and implementation.
- Responsible for development and installation of new CMX applications and programming.
- Responsible for installing and maintaining the programming and documentation tools for the field PLCs.
- Mentor I/E technicians on field control applications and hardware.
- Communicates regularly with operation sponsors, instrument techs, operations personnel at all sites and projects personnel from Calgary.
- Support and suggest testing of new technology to increase productivity and reduce costs.
- Stay current on hardware and software developments as pertaining to areas of responsibilities.
- Participate in self-assessments and controls Hazops, resolve outstanding controls issues in a timely manner.
- Communicates priorities and workload regularly with Team lead and Manager.
- Actively participates in the proactive safety program.
- Understands and complies with all OI and CIMS requirements.
About you
Skills & Qualifications:
- Strong preference given to career Level dual ticket Instrument/Electrical and field instrumentation experience.
- currently pursuing high school or GED or Instrumentation Engineering Technology diploma
Preferred Qualifications/Experience:
- Valid class 5 driver's license and safe driving record are required
- Ability to learn new technology.
- Capable of setting priorities and working independently solving complex programming / hardware problems.
- Intermediate to Advanced understanding of the PLC/CMX, Experion and communication (modem) system.
- Good troubleshooting and communication skills.
- Able to work in a team environment.
- Able and willing to find new ideas to improve field control system life cycle costs and risk level.
- Intermediate to advance computer skills including an understanding of Microsoft Access, Word, Excel. - Basic to intermediate programming skills.
- Understanding of QNX operating system for Passive Seismic systems.
- Active participation in Controls work planning process.
- Sound computer and measurement skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Adaptability to changing conditions
- Work schedule: Full-time position
Start date: May, 2025
Work term: February 2025 to December 2025.
