Cold Lake’s Native Internship Program  is an opportunity for local Indigenous candidates to gain practical, hands-on work experience at our Cold Lake operation. Interns will be trained and mentored in a supportive work environment.

 

Positions available

  • Field operator
  • Plant operator
  • Millwright
  • Instrumentation/electrical technician
  • Environmental technician
  • Business support group (office administration)

 

 

Responsibilities

  • Understanding and abiding by all safety rules and standards, reporting hazards, and assuming responsibility for the safe operation of your assigned unit, company vehicle and tools
  • Understanding and abiding by applicable government regulations (e.g. Transportation of Dangerous Goods, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System, etc.)
  • Participating in safety programs/meetings and attending training and/or self-development courses

 

Qualifications

This posting is intended for applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations or Métis) from one of the communities mentioned below.

 

Academic

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory
  • Depending on the position, commitment to obtaining a 4th Class or 3rd Class Power Engineering Certificate, Millwright Journeyman Ticket or an Instrumentation/Electrical Ticket
  • For the Business Support Group position, a diploma and/or certificate in Office Administration is an asset
  • For the Environmental Technician position, post-secondary studies (completed or currently pursuing) in Environmental Science, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Indigenous Relations or related programs is an asset

Other

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license and safe driving record are required
  • To be considered, you must attach a proof of membership letter from your association/settlement/band office to your application. This information will be used for the purpose of identifying your eligibility for the program. Please do not attach a copy of your membership card. Proof of membership must come from one of the following communities:
    • Beaver Lake Cree Nation
    • Cold Lake First Nations
    • Frog Lake First Nation
    • Heart Lake First Nation
    • Kehewin Cree Nation
    • Onion Lake First Nation
    • Saddle Lake Cree Nation
    • Whitefish/Goodfish Lake First Nation
    • Buffalo Lake Métis Settlement
    • Elizabeth Métis Settlement
    • Fishing Lake Métis Settlement
    • Kikino Métis Settlement
    • Métis Nation of Alberta – Region 2
    • Métis Nation of Alberta – Region 1* (*Born in, or resident of, Lac La Biche only)


Work term:  Up to a 1 year paid internship with possibility of a 1 year extension. Upon successful completion of the 2 year program, possibility for offer of full-time employment.

  • For applicants given an offer, pre-employment background screening will be required.  This will require you to provide copies of your valid driver’s license, 5-year most recent driver’s abstract (dated within the last 6 months) and high school diploma or GED.

 

Eligibility to work in Canada

All applicants who receive an offer of employment must be eligible to work in Canada on their start date.  Proof of eligibility shall be in the form of a Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, Canadian citizenship certificate, Canadian certificate of permanent residence, Canadian open work permit or receipt from Immigration Canada of an application for a post-graduate work permit. Proof of eligibility must be current and valid (not expired, cancelled or voided). Proof of eligibility will be required if an offer of employment is made. Failure to provide proof of eligibility at least six (6) weeks prior to the start date may result in the offer of employment being rescinded.
