Job description

Imperial's Safety, Security, Health & Environment (SSH&E) team  offers you the opportunity to complete an exciting, challenging, and comprehensive work term.

In this position, you will be given the opportunity to have a wide variety of responsibilities which may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide guidance to support the Asset Site Leadership Team in achieving "Nobody Gets Hurt".  Champion for application of Imperial safety processes to benefit asset safety performance.
  • Support / Advise the IOL Site Management, Asset Leadership Team, and Safety / SSH&E Leadership Team in areas of safety / health / security and emergency preparedness
  • Develop asset plans / programs as required by the Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) and / or the project management team.  Ensure establishment of adequate control processes and implementation per the Safety Management System.
  • Guide / Support safety advisors to establish and implement plans that meet or exceed Imperial corporate SSHE requirements.
  • Provide oversight of and functional support to site safety advisors.

  • Enrolled in 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of studies in Occupational Health and Safety returning to school after the work term. Applicable to degree programs and/or technical diplomas
  • To be considered for employment, your most recent unofficial transcript(s) must be submitted with your application



  • Basic understanding of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and familiarity with Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
  • Demonstrate high level of self-initiative, with a strong desire to learn new knowledge and skills
  • Highly motivated, results oriented, and possess strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in collaborative environment to ensure effective project delivery
  •  Demonstrated work experience in Safety-related positions (including some prior oil & gas experience).
  • Must be able to effectively communicate / influence multiple levels, from Senior Level Manager to Worker.
  • Ability to work in harsh environments winter temperature (-40C),
  • Willingness to travel / live away from home for extended time periods.
  • Proficient in use of computers and programs such as Microsoft Office.

Work term: 8 months
