As an HR Employee / Labour Relations Advisor, you will be responsible for providing employee / labour relations support and advice to a non-unionized internal client group which includes our oil sands operations in northern Alberta. You will work closely with your strategic business partners to influence positive and proactive employee relations. You will receive guidance from our Kearl HR Manager and you will work as part of a collaborative team of advisors who provide generalist HR support to the asset. Although you will be located in Calgary, frequent multi-day trips to Kearl site are required to successfully manage this client portfolio. We are seeking an experienced professional who can easily shift between the strategic and tactical aspects of the role.

You will be relied upon to:


  • Manage all aspects of the internal employee representation system (facilitate and lead meetings, and manage the complaint resolution process including direct support to supervisors on case management)
  • Provide guidance and education on employee relations issues (e.g. progressive discipline, workplace policies, recognition, performance management, alcohol & drug policy)
  • Develop / lead / support / consult:
    • Internal employee communication plans in support of positive industrial relations, including drafting and/or delivering communications with all levels of management and employees
    • Annual compensation program (including competitive data analysis, and communications)
    • Workplace investigations (e.g. discipline, harassment)
    • Workplace change management initiatives resulting from various business improvement/growth projects
  • Leverage organizational effectiveness best practice tools and techniques to:
    • Diagnose organizational issues and design organization improvement strategies
    • Consult effectively with client managers
    • Manage organizational change projects
  • Analyze and leverage data to positively influence business strategy and decisions



  • An undergraduate or graduate degree, specializations in Human Resources/Industrial Relations preferred. Other disciplines considered.



  • 10 to 15 years of relevant work experience in Industrial Relations and/or Change Management.
  • Ability, flexibility and willingness to frequent travel and work at site when required.
