What role you will play in our team

Executes compliance programs and supports field operations staff with regulatory or environmental work items. Activities include: responding to regulatory/environmental questions or issues, leading compliance assessments, maintaining associated performance tools, and implementing improvement initiatives. The scope of this role is national and encompasses all Imperial Midstream assets across Canada. Assets include truck and rail terminals, marine dock loading facilities, and oil and gas pipelines.

 

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Regulatory and Environmental activities, which may include regular interface with Imperial Management, Operations, Projects, other support teams, with respect to the following:
  • Operations Integrity Management System (OIMS) implementation for Regulatory Compliance and/or Environmental Protection
  • Effective and timely response to regulatory and environmental requests
  • Legislative impact assessments, ensuring detailed review of legislation, appropriate communication to stakeholders, and execution of action items 
  • Regulatory and environmental compliance metrics tracking and stewardship
  • Permit and license management, including renewals, variances, amendments, cancellations, and reports
  • Development and maintenance of procedures and manuals to incorporate current regulatory and environmental requirements
  • Regulatory compliance program planning and execution, including selection of sites to be assessed, application of assessment requirements, completion of field assessments, database maintenance, and report writing 
  • Environmental performance reporting, including the calculation, analysis, and stewardship of VOC and CO2 emissions data, electricity usage, and waste generation 
  • National Pollutant Release Inventory (NPRI) reporting, and emissions reporting at provincial and municipal levels
  • Other government-related reporting as required by operations and projects
  • Effluent and groundwater monitoring programs, requiring interface with sites, environmental consultants, and labs
  • Waste management practices, supporting site compliance, database administration, and waste reduction initiatives
  • Leads and/or supports special projects, assessments, and other continuous improvement opportunities, as required

About you

Skills and Qualifications

  • Mus be pursuing University degree in Engineering Environmental Studies, or similar

 

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

  • Asset but not requirement: experience in the Regulatory and/or Environmental field in Canada, with exposure to both Provincial and Federal requirements related to operating oil and gas facilities (useful knowledge includes: environment, fire code, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, rail, marine, pipeline, emergency response, technical safety standards, etc.)
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communications skills, with specific focus on preparing legally sensitive information
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Access, SharePoint, Word, PowerPoint, other database systems, etc.)
  • Ability to assess and react effectively and constructively to a broad scope of work items and changing work priorities
  • Analytical, critical thinking, and decision making skills
  • Able to travel for work as required
  • Valid driver's license

 

Start date: January, 2024

 

Location: Calgary, AB

 

Work term: 12 - 16 months

Eligibility to work in Canada

Proof of eligibility must be current and valid (not expired, cancelled or voided). Proof of eligibility will be required if an offer of employment is made. Failure to provide proof of eligibility at least six (6) weeks prior to the start date may result in the offer of employment being rescinded.
