This role will be office based and located in Calgary, initially.  Relocation to Edmonton will be a requirement in approximately mid-2028.  Occasional travel to Kearl will be encouraged.

This role is responsible for the planning, assessment, and design of future surface water management infrastructure, ensuring effective integration with existing systems. The scope is primarily mid‑ to long‑range (1 to 15 year) planning, supporting the ongoing development and resilience of the site‑wide water management network.

Responsibilities span the full project lifecycle, from conceptual through detailed design, and include advising on project development, supporting regulatory applications, and providing technical troubleshooting guidance during construction and operations.

Key areas of accountability include:

  • Planning how water will be moved, stored, and managed within current and future development areas
  • Identifying required infrastructure (e.g., sumps, pumps, pipelines, discharge systems) and determining optimal routing, sizing, and phasing
  • Defining when infrastructure is required to align with development sequencing
  • Assessing existing infrastructure to determine what must be retained, modified, or upgraded to maintain system performance
  • Ensuring water management infrastructure is fully integrated with other site infrastructure, including roads, pipelines, and utilities

Additional responsibilities may include:

  • Completing water‑related desktop studies and technical assessments
  • Maintaining and updating the site water balance
  • Developing, reviewing, and updating engineering standards and guidelines
  • Representing Imperial in industry working groups and external forums

This role will execute work both directly and through technical oversight of work performed by internal teams and external consultants. The position is dynamic and iterative, requiring strong problem‑solving skills, sound engineering judgment, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

A successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, and project management skills, and the ability to work effectively across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions. Experience and/or knowledge of mining operations and provincial and federal regulatory frameworks is considered an asset.
