What role you will play in our team

The Kearl Operations Integrity (OI) Student is responsible to provide support to the Kearl OI Team. The OI student will be responsible to support various Kearl OI programs, including Environment and Regulatory (E&R) and Safety. The Kearl E&R Team manages environmental and regulatory compliance programs at Kearl for all environmental aspects, i.e. air, water, wildlife, waste, incidents. The Kearl Safety Team supports the improvement of overall safety performance at Kearl.  The OI Student will be located at Imperial’s head office in Quarry Park, Calgary, and will work a Monday to Friday schedule. The anticipated start date for this position is 8 January 2024, and is a 12 month term. 

What you will do

Primary job duties include assisting the Kearl Safety and E&R Advisors with management of environmental and safety programs, supporting OI-related initiatives, and assisting the OI Teams with internal and external reporting.  Responsibilities will also include providing support to key safety and environmental initiatives. This position reports to the Kearl Environment and Regulatory (E&R) and Emergency Preparedness and Response (EP&R) Supervisor in Calgary.  The position will require ability to travel to Kearl, our field site north of Fort McMurray as needed.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a relevant science, engineering, technology, or OH&S (Occupational Health and Safety) program at a post-secondary institution, and must be returning to school following the internship. University and college programs are acceptable. 


Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

  • Preference will be given to Indigenous candidates, particularly those from the Wood Buffalo Region
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) 
  • Technical proficiency in Excel, One Note, Sharepoint

Eligibility to work in Canada
