Job Role Summary

 

Come join our creative teams in ExxonMobil Upstream Information Technology (UIT) that delivers industry-leading geoscience business capabilities & computational sciences through the support of Unconventional Geoscientists, geoscience workflows, & geoscience software. As our Unconventional Geoscience Associate, you will participate in the evaluation of geosteering technology, solution design, & hands-on implementation. You will have regular collaboration internally with the broader ExxonMobil IT organization product teams, development teams, stakeholders, & consultants, as well as working externally with software vendors. Additionally, you will be working with our Unconventional Geoscientists, Reservoir & Drilling Engineers, & our remote Business Technology Centers in India in support of our industry leading Remote Operations Center (ROC) for Drilling.

Primary Job Description

 

  • SME for geosteering & drilling operations support on a dynamic geoscience and engineering IT support team in direct support of a robust & highly active drilling program primarily in Unconventional assets
  • On Call rotation with the other members of the Unconventional Geoscience & Engineering Support team (approximately once every six weeks)
  • Identify & promote solutions to Unconventional Geoscience & Engineering application issues 
  • Primary support of Unconventional Geosteering & Drilling Operations applications, to a lesser extent, supporting a broader Unconventional Geoscience technology portfolio of approximately 30 applications including Kingdom, Petrel, Petra, Landmark EDT
  • Unconventional Geosteering domain support includes:
    • Translation of geoscience business needs to develop appropriate python scripts for StarSteer
    • Teach StarSteer onboarding & advanced geosteering classes
    • Admin for StarSteer SOLO projects (cloud geosteering projects)
    • Test updated application design & provide packaging instructions 
    • Communicate business needs to our 3rd party geosteerers in the Remote Operations Center (ROC)
  • Secondary support on a number of other Geoscience applications in our Unconventional Geoscience application portfolio 
    • Provide guidance to geoscience community on effective use of subsurface applications
    • Develop & market best practice documentation & training material
    • Develop workflows to facilitate Geoscience work processes & foster technology uptake
    • Resolve and/or coordinate the resolution of Geoscience application issues & enhancements with appropriate internal organizations or vendors
    • Identify trends & opportunities in support demands, with recommendations to maximize improvement impact & business value

Job Requirements

 

  • Ability to work independently & proactively
  • Strong written and oral communication skills & strong interpersonal skills enabiling you to work in a highly collaborative cross functional environment with numerous teams including software developers, domain experts, support analysts, business contacts
  • Expertise in geoscience workflows, data, & best practices, especially in the areas of Unconventional geosteering & drilling operations, & Unconventional assets

Required Experience

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Geoscience or a related field, or equivalent experience in both Geoscience or Drilling Operations
  • Prior work experience in the upstream oil & gas industry, specifically in drilling operations & geosteering of Unconventional assets
