What role you will play in our team

 

The Trade Compliance Advisor role embodies core cross-functional expertise that is charged to advise multiple business lines on compliance options to meet Reasonable Care expectations within and between geographic regions. The Trade Compliance Advisor also guides Trade Regulations team members to deliver insightful, effective operational assessments and process improvements while maintaining broad awareness of compliance action to translate holistic progress towards management deliverables. Proactive self-starters that enjoy a fast-paced environment, problem-solving, and collaboration will excel in this role. This role is integral to enabling strategic growth with digital capability, process integration, and organizational learning.


As a member of this team, you will join the ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company, contributing to a growing corporate business structure and portfolio. Advisory scope includes US Customs basis and aligning needed action across North/ South American contacts and global counterparts. This role is an integral part of the global trade compliance team.
 
The position is located at the ExxonMobil Campus, Spring Texas.

What you will do

 

  • Ensure regional Trade Compliance Team, Supply Chain, and businesses/ functions are proactively informed of new/changing trade regulations, standards, and agreements; highlight advocacy needs 
  • Recommend solution(s) to comply with new/changing trade regulations, standards and agreements or resources  
  • Recommend changes/additions to assessment procedures to improve oversight of compliance with trade regulations, standards, and agreements as they apply to the region
  • Liaise with internal / external groups to support trade regulations operational compliance across business lines and all modes of transportation to develop, support, and improve compliance processes and tools for the organization
  • Ensure law/tax is consulted to resolve Trade Compliance issues as needed
  • Lead/ advise regional execution and maintenance of the trade regulation management system: monitoring, incident investigation, procedural and training program sustainability, internal/ external system assessments
  • Provide guidance to Import & Export Specialists in closure of identified assessment gaps and stewardship of improvements
  • The opportunity exists for highly qualified individuals to assist the Management Team in defining longer-term trade compliance strategies and resource plans.
  • TR Advisor time is spent, approximately: 40% engaging in cross-functional collaborative efforts training and advising internal contacts on compliance requirements and solution options; 30% improving efficiency & effectiveness of existing processes and tools with Supply Chain, Customs; 20% managing ad hoc queries and issues, and 10% developing/ modifying process to comply w/ regulations (including surveillance)

 

About you

 

Skills and Qualifications

 

  • Extensive, direct trade compliance experience with subject matter expertise
  • Demonstrated ability to develop, steward, and guide third party service provider (e.g. freight forwarders, customs brokers) and internal business partners relationships with Customs compliance requirements
  • Understands Automated Export System (AES) filing requirements and US CBP Reasonable Care expectations
  • Working knowledge of Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Code Federal Regulations (CFR), Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR), International Traffic and Arms Regulations (ITAR), Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification and Free Trade Agreement (FTA) requirements, duty optimization structures, supply chain logistics
  • Seek a candidate with US Citizenship to have direct access to AES data

 

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

 

  • Ability to leverage subject matter expertise in trade compliance discipline(s) (e.g., valuation, country of origin, classification) to develop procedures, deliver training, and provide guidance on regulatory requirements
  • Operational knowledge of import, export compliance and customs trade system administration
  • Any of the following qualifications: relevant BA/ BS degree, Certified Export Specialist (CES), customs broker license, and/ or relevant depth of trade compliance industry experience
  • Multi-modal logistics experience
  • Oil & Gas or Chemical industry experience is a plus
  • Self-starter in a fast-paced environment; facilitate team to confirm priority initiatives and highlight anticipated resourcing requirements with minimal management oversight
  • Ability to lead teams to accomplish goals across organizational and functional boundaries 
  • Ability to collaborate with/ influence others through informal and indirect leadership to develop productive internal and external networks
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills used in managing multiple initiatives and executing government engagement 
  • Proficient in PowerBI, SAP, Excel, PowerPoint, global trade digital tool(s)
    SAP experience as understanding sales flows and material movements is ideal
    Alteryx familiarity is a plus
