What role you will play in our team

 

  • Key member of the OS&S Measurement Team primarily focused on providing technical leadership in the measurement discipline across all ExxonMobil Unconventional business units. Provides key measurement-related technical, execution, and operational support for Americas-based onshore upstream operations. Ensures the existence of healthy and fair measurement practices across all responsible assets and stewards compliance with Company measurement practices and Industry Standards. Facilitates ExxonMobil organizational effectiveness by fostering a collaborative network of measurement expertise around the world to leverage corporate knowledge and drive continuous improvement. Maintains collaborative and influential roles and relationships with external parties such as industry committees, manufacturers, and suppliers in the petroleum measurement arena.

  • This role is located at the ExxonMobil Houston Campus (Spring, TX).

     

What you will do

 

  • Apply understanding of Company Measurement and Industry Standards to the cost-effective delivery of general petroleum measurement services to the supported business unit.
  • Work closely with field-based measurement advisors and members of the measurement community of practice to support and ensure alignment of measurement practices and operational measurement goals.
  • Assist field-based measurement personnel, accounting, and field engineering teams in troubleshooting issues in upstream measurement and allocation systems
  • Assess measurement program integrity and accuracy through collection and analysis of key performance indicators
  • Support overall Company measurement program governance and compliance stewardship of results to management and other internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify bad actors and assist the maintenance and/or operations organizations in developing and implementing plans for resolution
  • Support appropriate equipment selection, specification, and vendor selection for procurement of measurement related packages and systems
  • Work collaboratively with vendors and suppliers within established ExxonMobil requirements to ensure appropriate design, manufacture, testing, and delivery of measurement systems/equipment.
  • Support successful installation, commissioning, and operation of measurement systems.
  • Support review of Upstream Production Handling, Gathering/Transportation, Sales, and other agreements under which product or title changes hands. Assist in contract and commercial negotiations
  • Support internal audits as subject matter expert. Perform field assessments of measurement practices and assess risk and exposure.
  • Participate in measurement-related industry committees to assert ExxonMobil’s position for standards underdevelopment or revision which may include leadership roles (e.g. API COPM, GPA, AGA, ASTM).
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies to improve measurement across the ExxonMobil upstream, midstream, downstream, and chemical organizations globally.
  • Assist, facilitate, and lead gain/loss investigations such as pipeline and terminal gain/loss, production allocation loss, gas plant imbalance, and transportation loss (e.g. truck) and implement plans for resolution of identified problems.
  • Participate and/ or lead measurement-related project scopes to meet business needs and ensure efficient use of capital on projects varying from full field developments to brownfield metering modifications.
  • Coordinate development and administration of Measurement tools, software, and training material.
  • Mentor and train new hires and less experienced team members as needed.

About You

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in an engineering discipline, preferably Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrical, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of overall experience in hydrocarbon measurement / metering applications
  • Strong interest in long term advancement of measurement capabilities within ExxonMobil
  • Flexibility for domestic and international travel to support business needs

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience

 

  • 10+ years of overall experience in upstream oil and gas, petrochemical, or refining industry.
  • Working knowledge of and experience in the application of hydrocarbon and petroleum measurement practices, regulatory requirements, and Industry Standards (e.g. API COPM, GPA, AGA, ASTM).
  • Knowledge of dynamic and static custody transfer gas/liquid hydrocarbon flow measurement methods and practices.
  • Knowledge of oil and gas sampling (manual and automatic) and quality analysis.
  • Knowledge of production and well rate flow measurement, including MPFM and phase behavior.
  • Knowledge of upstream operations, gain/loss investigations, and commercial contract language.
  • Ability to learn, understand, implement, and improve ExxonMobil Measurement practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated sound business judgement and ability to incorporate the “big picture” into strategy development.
  • Ability to think strategically and develop creative fit for purpose solutions to resolve operational problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and promote change to achieve desired results with no direct authority.
  • Experience as formal or informal leader and mentor.
  • Strong facilitation skills for use in cross-functional efforts.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, especially in the context of technical and business communications.
  • Excellent analytic and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs.
  • Working knowledge or experience with measurement surveillance and maintenance software packages (e.g. FlowCal, TESTit, Muddy Boots).
  • Working knowledge or experience with production accounting software (e.g. ProCount, Energy Components, PRA) and understanding of allocation methods.
  • Proficient in data cleaning, preparation, analysis, exploration (e.g. SQL, Python, PowerQuery, Databricks).
  • Experience or ability to develop strong knowledge for use of software packages purposed for statistical analysis (e.g. JMP, Minitab) and data visualization/reporting (Spotfire, Tableau, and PowerBI).
