About Houston
ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What role you will play in our team
ExxonMobil Engineering and Technology Company in Spring, Texas, is looking for a HALO Laboratory Technologist to provide physical testing laboratory support in metallurgy and failure analysis. This role involves supporting the Upstream and Product Solutions business lines by conducting materials lab work for metallurgical research and failure analyses, all while maintaining high safety standards.
What you will do
Materials Research & Failure Analysis
• Work in a team environment while independently conducting materials research projects and failure analysis.
• Collaborate with materials engineers and affiliates to develop lab objectives and testing plans.
• Mechanical tasks involve manually handling materials, operating equipment, and trouble shooting.
• Apply metallographic and microscopic techniques (optical and SEM) to facilitate microstructural analysis.
• Conduct hardness, micro-hardness, and field hardness testing techniques.
• Perform NDE (i.e. PT, MT, UT) inspection methods in support of research and failure analysis efforts.
• Carry out sectioning, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching of metallurgical samples.
• Conduct direct cause failure analysis using standard laboratory methods to determine failure mechanism and material characterization.
• Test out new emerging technologies in the field at third parties or XOM business units.
• Maintain lab equipment, lab supplies, and lab spaces.
Testing: Operate a variety of equipment used for metallurgical analysis and preparation, mechanical testing, microscopy, welding, and NDE. (i.e. Grinding/Polishing, Etching, Band Saws, Wet Abrasive Saws, Mounting Press, Optical Microscope, Digital Microscope, Scanning Electron Microscope, Hardness Testers, Forklift, Overhead Crane, and NDE testing)
Troubleshooting: Able to determine issues with equipment or workflows and collaborate within the team to develop and implement innovative solutions. Must be mechanically inclined and have the ability to work hands on.
Communication Skills: Ability to effectively engage and collaborate with people with diverse skill sets and backgrounds. High level of communication is required for planning, executing, and reporting lab analysis to our business stakeholders.
About you
Skills and Qualifications
Education: A degree in material science or metallurgy is desired.
Skills: Mechanical aptitude is required as this is a lab technician position.
Preferred knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Technical & Laboratory Experience: A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Material Science/Testing Lab is desired.

Computing and Information Technology: Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Abilities: Able to work and learn in areas or disciplines that differ from educational/work experience.
