Job Summary

The Counterparty Screening, Sanctions, and Export Controls (CSSEC) team provides critical services that enable ExxonMobil’s business lines to comply with laws and regulations related to third-party risk management, trade sanctions, and export controls. CSSEC is staffed with Trade Compliance Advisors located in Houston, Hungary, and Bangkok. These Advisors leverage their expertise to:

  1. Advise global business lines and centralized organizations on the interpretation and application of trade regulations.
  2. Support Supply Chain Management by analyzing developments in trade laws and assessing their implications for ExxonMobil.
  3. Continuously evaluate and enhance the company’s compliance programs for export controls, trade sanctions, and third-party risk management.

 

 

Primary Responsibility

As a Global Trade Compliance Advisor, you will:

  • Advise on the proper application of export controls and trade sanctions regulations.
  • Provide export control classification for items manufactured or purchased by the company.
  • Design, implement, and maintain processes and tools to support export controls and trade sanctions compliance.
  • Identify and drive improvements in the overall trade compliance program.
  • Develop and deliver training on trade sanctions and export controls.
  • Interpret restricted party screening results and provide guidance to business lines.
  • Lead initiatives to enhance communication and awareness of the trade compliance program.
  • Build strong partnerships with Business Lines, Centralized Organizations, and Compliance Law.

 

Qualifications

  • Expert-level knowledge of U.S. export controls and trade sanctions regulations, particularly those administered by the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) and the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
  • Familiarity with EU and UK trade laws is highly desirable.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in export controls and/or trade sanctions compliance.
  • Strong understanding of best practices in trade compliance program design and implementation.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Excellent critical thinking and process-oriented problem-solving skills.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working independently and in a virtual, cross-functional team environment.
  • Interest in solving complex business challenges that intersect technical and legal domains.
