Ecommerce Marketing Business Development Manager

Job Role Summary

The E-Commerce Marketing Business Development Manager, as part of the Finished Lubes Marketing group, has the overall responsibility to act as the North America (US/Canada) digital and E-Commerce marketing and commercial strategy lead for the Business Unit. The position is responsible (owner) for identifying digital and eCommerce partners aligned with business and brand strategies, developing creative solutions and developing joint marketing and commercial contracts with 3rd party partners. The E-Commerce Marketing Business Development will be located in Houston, TX and will report to the North America Marketing Manager. The position will manage the day-to-day interactions with brand managers, consumer and commercial sector sales managers, sales operations, customer service, and ExxonMobil IT and innovation organizations to align efforts in support of advancing growth strategies, dealing with digital E-Commerce platforms, in the North America Business Unit.

Job Role Responsibilities:


  • Lead the effort to identify ecommerce and digital partnerships including establishing criteria and making recommendations to leadership to advance business and brand strategies
  • Lead E-Commerce and digital partner strategy development by distilling market data, observations & trends and persuading partners to engage with ExxonMobil for mutual benefit
  • Regular review of partner performance and relationship progress to senior management including developing and presenting business cases
  • Develop the 1-5 years roadmap and initiatives for the North America Lubricants E-Commerce and digital partnership activities, including existing ExxonMobil go-to-market channels (e.g. authorized distributors, 3rd party retailers, etc.)
  • Seek and articulate market insights about traditional and non-traditional competitors in the digital services and E-Commerce spaces
  • Establish deep business and technical relationships with potential and existing partners through knowledge of the lubes business and partners of the future in traditional and emerging channels
  • Identify, research, and evaluate potential new partners/prospects/channels to approach while communicating the specific value proposition for our business and use cases
  • Manage and track marketing partnership development opportunities working collaboratively with relevant sales teams
  • Oversee the creation of proposals and act as a liaison between the commercial team and the customer support team when required.
  • Develop joint business and marketing plans as appropriate as well as engage in structuring and developing partnership agreements
  • Put legal documentation in place (NDAs, joint development agreements, license agreements, partner contracts, MoUs, etc.). Lead implementation of new partnerships and/or identify resources for execution and oversee early stage development and implementation
  • Ensure compliance with company expectations for cybersecurity, brand and product integrity

  • Automotive and/or Industrial sector-specific knowledge to include any knowledge of supply chain and lubricants within those industries
  • Bachelor degree required (Sales, Marketing, IT, Finance, Economics), MBA preferred
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


  • 10 years of marketing or business development partnership experience and fluency in digital marketing, ecommerce, IT and data analytics/insights.
  • Leadership especially in undefined or ambiguous environments
  • Strong analytical and communication skills (able to communicate at an executive level)
  • Demonstrated negotiation and agreement completion skills
  • Experience managing cross-functional Virtual Teams and influence without formal authority
  • Knowledge of supply chains and lubricants in the automotive and/or Industrial sector preferred
