ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What role you will play in our team
ExxonMobil is seeking qualified and experienced individuals to provide wells engineering technical expertise to its oil and gas development projects. The primary role and responsibility of the Wells Engineer is to collaborate with a multi-functional team to design, plan, and execute drilling and completions operations in compliance with internal and external standards. Other responsibilities include well cost estimates, operations surveillance and performance analysis, risk assessments, equipment selection and procurement support.
This role may be based in Houston/Spring, TX, Midland, TX or other location depending on need.
What will you do
-
Responsible for developing operational programs for drilling and/or completions activities, ensuring focus on operations integrity and regulatory compliance

Able to develop and optimize drill well and/or completion designs for multi-well programs; competent with casing and/or completions tubing design, and able to effectively work with contractors to develop well path plans, drilling and/or completions fluids programs, and cementing programs

Provides advanced technical support for drilling, completion, well intervention and/or well abandonment strategies to improve well designs and operational plans, or support issue resolution

Performs comprehensive risk management strategies, including but not limited to areas of SSH&E (Safety, Security, Health & Environmental) impacts, emergency preparedness, well control procedures and contingency planning

Provides mentoring and coaching to less experienced Wells Engineers

Performs modeling / analyses to support effective execution of drilling and/or completions programs, including but not limited to torque and drag, hydraulics, and drill string / work string / BHA modeling

Develops well cost estimates, and stewards well cost lifecycle and surveillance; assists management with budget planning activities

Supports contracting / tendering and procurement activities related to drilling and completions services

Manages multiple contractor interfaces, establishing effective working relationships while ensuring timely delivery of equipment and services; monitors Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and advises leadership on contractor performance

Assists with NPT / equipment failure investigations and follow-up reporting

Performs surveillance of daily drilling and/or completions operations; highlights potential deviations from plan, analyses drilling and/or completions performance and provides recommendations on optimization opportunities to Wells Team leadership

Effectively collaborates with field-based Operations Supervisors to drive successful execution of well programs

Facilitates pre-well section meetings and post well after-action reviews with input from field operations team, engineering advisors and Wells Team leadership

Responsible final well reporting, including lessons learned capture and well cost reconciliations

Keeps abreast of the latest available drilling and/or completions technology and operational best practices
Skills and Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Engineering discipline

Prior Wells Engineering experience, preferably 5 - 15 years

High level of personal and professional integrity. Demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills, able to manage self and lead others in a diverse work team.

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to adapt communication style between leading onsite team to relaying technical information to office based team.

Willing and able to travel and relocate (domestic and international) as required to support global operations. Examples: international rotational (e.g., 28 days on / 28 days off) assignments, domestic relocations, and expatriate assignments.
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
- Familiarity with challenging drilling and completion environments (e.g., deep-water, extended reach, managed pressure drilling, unconventional, high temperature / high pressure).
