What you will do

Through our internship program, you will gain first-hand experience with an industry leader in the refining and petrochemical industry. Your work, and that of the teams, contributes to the growth and future of our business, as we provide energy, products, and solutions for society.  In addition, it will be an excellent platform for you to explore your career aspirations while delivering tangible benefits throughout our business from invaluable on-the-job-experience.

Beyond that, you will not be alone as you will have a supervisor and engineer assigned to you who can help you navigate the organization, give advice on your development and help you learn what it takes to achieve your goals.

As part of the assessed internship, you will have a formal final review on project delivery and performance by your supervisor. You will also be asked to prepare a final presentation or report out about your project.  

Possible internship scopes include:

Lab Operations

• Ensure a safe working environment with zero incidents
• Participate actively in safety activities such as safety walkabouts, safety observations, development of job loss analysis documents and safety stewardship meetings
• Ensure adherence to ExxonMobil's System of Management Control - Basic Standards, Policies and Corporate Oil Measurement Practices e.g. HCP, CIMS, etc, during daily activities
• Ensure compliance to QP&G, DIAF, CIMS, ICSR and ITCM requirements during daily activities.
• Assist Laboratory Chemist in the following:
  • Investigation of blend failures, including understanding the root cause and developing corrective and preventive actions to achieve good blend performance.
  • Reformulation work, taking the lead to steward component availability, completion of hand blends, testing, analysis, documenting and reporting of results; to work with Technology Solution Professionals to troubleshoot and resolve reformulation issues.
  • Sample requests, to respond to sample requests from internal and external stakeholders, taking the lead to evaluate requests based on availability.
  • Conduct data verification on worksheets and calibration records based on QP&G manual.
  • Work on initiatives to improve the safety, quality, and/or efficiency of the plant (e.g. flush studies, homogeneity studies etc.)

Our internship programs are assessed, and outstanding candidates may be offered a full-time job offer to kickstart your career.  We do prioritize our employment offers to outstanding candidates from our internship program over those without internship.

About you

Skills and Qualifications

To be eligible for our Internship Program, you should be:

• Preferably in your penultimate year of study
• Undergraduate in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry

• Good analytical, collaboration, communication skills are essential

• Able to work well with cross functional teams in a matrix organization

• Ability to manage risk, make sound decisions and take initiative a plus
