Job Role Summary

The Central Data Office (CDO) has a mission is to leverage data and analytics to drive business value. The Data Architect will work closely with other Architects, subject matter experts (SMEs), data product managers, data engineers, and developers to design data sets and consult with projects and product delivery team to ensure data architecture is aligned with enterprise data principles and standards. 

Job Role Responsibilities

•    Master's or Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, engineering (computer, mechanical, chemical), system analysis or a related field
•    Minimum 5 years of experience in data design/architecture and strong willingness to continue learning
•    Recent experience developing reference data architecture, data modeling (conceptual, logical and physical), data profiling, data quality analysis, building business data glossaries and data catalogs
•    Knowledge regarding data governance and master/reference data management programs
•    Knowledge regarding information security principles
•    Experience using SQL Server, SQL query language, E/R Studio Data Architect modeling tool
•    Experience working with agile delivery teams
•    Effective planning, communication, collaboration and persuasion skills to drive the management of change needed for organizational adoption of produced guidance including supporting organizations
•    Well-developed written and verbal communication skills; familiarity with using SharePoint team sites to collaborate; self-starter, takes initiative and is able to work in a fast-paced environment
 

Preferred Skills & Experience

•    Experience with MDM tools such as Precisely EnterWorks and data cataloging tools such as Collibra
•    Understanding of large data store technologies (i.e., Data Lakes, Data Warehouse, Data Hubs, etc.)
•    Knowledge of XML, JSON, Python and understanding of API concepts and integration architecture
•    Knowledge of the TOGAF Framework and DAMA Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBoK)
•    Leadership: Strong interpersonal skills; ability to influence; able to effectively interact with large/diverse groups
•    Strong background in data, analytics and tools/technologies; good working knowledge of ERPs, HANA & Snowflake 
•    Outward-looking and innovative: Ability to scan external market and benchmark against competition, including on new technologies and processes; relentlessly search for competitive sources of advantage
•    Experience in big tech company is preferred

•    Become the focal point to projects and product teams on data needs/considerations and on translation of business requirements into data architecture deliverables which maximize value capture potential of the delivered solution
Note: Data architecture deliverables include developing and maintaining architectural roadmap for data products, overseeing development data architecture artifacts, providing guidance on design and management of data needs/requirements for data products and organizing processes related to data management and governance
•    Create and/or provide oversight on development of conceptual and logical data models
•    Provide input into business glossaries (repositories of standard common business vocabulary)
•    Ensure data architecture supports proper security/access, retention and classification policies
•    Collaborate with IT to evaluate new technologies which enhance flexibility and agility of data architecture designs
•    Consult with projects and ensure solutions are aligned with CDO’s vision/mission and enterprise data architecture principles using established data architecture assessment methodologies
•    Partner with business leads and data governance groups to support business data needs 
•    Provide architectural leadership, guidance, consulting, mentoring, education and support to other architects, data professionals and to projects and product teams
•    Provide input/direction to Management of Change (MOC) plans to ensure data set adoption and sustainability
•    Analyze business processes and identify and implement improvement opportunities 
•    Work with IT to pursue acquisition of data sets which support critical business needs
