Rotterdam Area

 

The head office of the Benelux organisation is situated in Breda. The production plants are located in the Rotterdam port area.

  • The Rotterdam refinery is one of the most modern and environmentally friendly of its kind. Since being put into operation in 1960, the plant has undergone several renovations. The sizeable capital investments through the years have made the refinery ultra-efficient.
  • Officially called the Rotterdam Plasticizers & Intermediates Plant, the Rotterdam Oxo-alcohols Plant actually comprises three production facilities: the Rotterdam Oxo-Alcohol Plant in Europoort, the Phthalic Anhydride Plant and the Rotterdam Plasticizer Plant, which are both located in Rotterdam Botlek. It is the largest producer of plasticizers in Europe.
  • The Pernis Lubricant Plant - or Lube Oil Blending Plant - produces various types of engine oil for cars and lubricants for industrial applications.

What role you will play in our team

 

As Instrument Engineer you are the technical authority on instrumentation for part of the refinery and chemical plants and you are responsible for the performance of instrumentation equipment with a special focus on safety, regulations, reliability and improvements. Candidates liaise with suppliers, contractors, and project teams in acquiring equipment, ensuring that specifications are met and you follow projects through to commissioning.
Good knowledge of the design and maintenance requirements of field instruments, instrumentation systems and applicable codes and regulations is key for this position.

 

What you will do

 

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

 

  • Drive site asset improvement in areas of: safety, reliability, cyber-security, environmental performance and equipment capability
  • Respond to plant operational events
  • Analyse instrumentation equipment performance;  
    • Investigating instrumentation,
    • controls and safety system failures 
    • recommend actions to enhance equipment reliability
  • Assist in the development and review of maintenance and operating procedures for instrumentation, control and safety systems
  • Develop engineering and maintenance strategies for the site instrumentation equipment and supports the implementation 
  • Ensure full compliance with regulatory and  safety, health & environmental requirements
  • Support site projects in the areas of design consulting, specifications, technical quality assurance and start-up assistance 
  • Identify and prepare Management-of-Change activities
  • Development of the annual maintenance plans and plant turnaround scopes

  • Bachelor degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics or equivalent Industrial Automation related study
  • 8+ years professional experience required – preferably within an operating company or a major engineering contractor in the Petrochemical or Oil & Gas industry
  • High interest in oil refinery and petrochemical processes and automation related aspects
  • Fluent in English language skills: understanding, reading, writing and speaking
  • At least intermediate in Dutch language skills: understanding, reading, writing and speaking and if not yet fluent, prepared to commit to further improve your Dutch language skills
  • Experience with (project) engineering, reliability and maintenance principles, cost estimates and vendor/contractor relationship

 

Technical Knowledge and Skills:

 

  • Detailed knowledge and experience with the design, installation and maintenance requirements of field instruments (flow, level, pressure, temperature, valves) and instrumentation systems including power supplies and panel layouts
  • Experience with calculation and selection tools for control valves and flow measurement devices
  • Familiar with the measurement and control devices from major vendors in the Industry
  • Knowledge of Safety Instrumented System architectures, logic design, Safety Requirements Specification, SIL requirements and verifications(-tools); involved in FAT, SAT and commissioning of Safety Systems
  • Knowledge of the commonly used ATEX protection methods for instrumentation and equipment used in Hazardous Areas
  • Knowledgeable in process control system (DCS), PLC and SCADA system architectures
  • Understands the industrial cyber security threats, vulnerabilities and general security principles.
  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques, performance analysis and the ability to solve complex instrumentation related problems
