What role you will play in our team

 

Role is based at EM Haus, Port Moresby and supports our business across PNG and will involve regular domestic travel to our sites as required.

What you will do

 

The senior medical advisor assists in the development and execution of occupational health programs to meet regulatory requirements, to support the Corporate Health Policy and to protect and promote employee’s health. In addition, the person is expected to interface between the onsite medical clinics (operated by a 3rd party) and provide support and advice on any operational or clinical issues that arise. 

The position reports to the Country Medicine and Occupational Health (MOH) Manager. 

Core Responsibilities:
General

•    Provides services within the professional scope and standards of practice specific to the health care of employees. 
•    Exhibits leadership in safety and health initiatives within the organization. 
•    Interface with key stakeholders both in the business and community including local medical providers. 
•    Provides guidance and feedback on occupational health common systems and improvement opportunities to the OH Manager.
•    Analytical capabilities. 

Clinical 
•    Conducts clinical assessments to determine fitness for work.
•    Conducts initial diagnosis and treatment for potentially work-related illnesses and injuries.
•    Performs case management for work-related illnesses and injuries as well as for disabling personal illnesses and injuries.
•    Provides advice to employees on prevention of illness and injury.
•    Supports emergency preparedness and response. 
•    MOH provide clinical on call advice out of hours (via on call roster)
•    Provides advice to management and SHE professionals on occupational health issues including compliance with local regulations. 
•    Serves as Medical Review Officer for A&D policy purposes.
•    Provides advice, support, and mentoring for MOH employees (clinicians, IH) on occupational health related matters.
•    Involved in health promotion activities (‘Culture of Health’)

Operational
•    Supports equipment management including purchasing of consumables and medical supplies. 
•    Planning medical support for new projects.
•    Provides training on health-related topics. 

About you

 

Medical Doctor licensed in Papua New Guinea. 
•    Post-graduate medical qualification in any of the following disciplines: Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Public Health, Intensive Care, General Surgery or Occupational Medicine. 
•    Recognized expertise in applied clinical medicine. 
•    Previous occupational or public health experience (e.g. fitness for work assessment, alcohol and drug testing, infectious diseases, outbreak management) will be an advantage. 
•    Demonstrate leadership proficiency with experience in leading effective teams. 
•    Relevant work experience in a multinational organization will be an advantage. 
•    Excellent ability to network and build relationships with local health authorities and community health providers.

 

Preferred Qualifications/ Experience:


•    Previous experience of oil and gas/mining industries.
