Job Role Summary

 

ExxonMobil’s Fife Ethylene Plant (FEP), one of Europe’s largest and most modern ethylene plants, uses natural gas liquids from the North Sea and North America as its raw material and the plant now has an annual production of ~830,000 tonnes.  Ethylene is used in the production of a variety of everyday articles that are used around the home, such as plastics, textiles, toiletries, detergents, paints, antifreeze, lightweight car components and medical supplies.

Purpose of the Function

The Metals Job Leader owns the completion of ISTe Week 1 scheduled work within their area through effective and efficient work coordination amongst workgroups, achieving the business objective of SH&E, Controls, Work Quality, Cost and Schedule Compliance.

 

Role in the Organisation

The Job Leader (JL) is the single point of contact in ensuring that ISTe Week 1 work is coordinated and progressed to completion meeting above stated company objective.

Job Role Responsibilities

 

General

  • Hold contractor to account when maintenance work processes are being bypassed

 

Pre Execution:

  • Review 4 week IST look ahead
  • Interface with planning for complex/large cost tasks to ensure that plan/job pack is fit-for-purpose and the execution has been set-up for success, if not intervene to defer scheduling.
  • Interface with contractor for simple/basic tasks to ensure work scope is understood and has been set up for success.
  • Check that MEV usage, Unit Rate (UR) / Time & Materials (TM), contract meets efficiency expectation
  • Confirm today that tomorrow’s job is ready to go

 

During Execution:

  • Leads all non-site embedded contractor works (Furmanite, NICO)
  • Test in the field that all work in their area is being executed within business objectives of SH&E, Controls, Work Quality, Cost and Schedule
  • Coordinate across work groups when conflicts arise, the contractor retains overall responsibility.
  • Provide daily feedback, update of work status to Metal FLS; if schedule is not met, own the explanation
  • Monitor, understand and remove barriers for schedule compliance; take proactive steps with stakeholders to prevent recurrence
  • Provide feedback and suggestions to FLS to improve productivity
  • Request re-approval of budget through planner if cost overrun is expected. Use CVI/scope change form where appropriate for changes.

 

Post Execution

  • Add job history as applicable and close out the WON
  • Ensure job pack is returned to planner with feedback and lessons for improvement

 

Safety Health and Environment

  • Ensure workers understand the risks, control measures and mitigations before work start. Reinforces the need to stop and assess if the plan changes.
  • High field presence to conduct LPSA touches on workers, provide coaching and feedback to both EM and Contractor supervision/management
  • Actively watch out for and intervene on unsafe acts
  • Ensure that Safe System of Work, e.g. Permits, JLA’s & TRA’s are adhered to
  • Support EM Supervision and Contractor Management by providing feedback on workers’ safety performance.

 

Reliability

  • Ensures that Quality standard and expectation for each of the job is understood by the work force, and V&V is performed to confirm compliance.
  • Ensures that modification to process equipment is done according to the Management of Change (MOC) procedure.

 

Efficiency

  • Understand and reduce / remove barriers to efficiencies, MEV usage, document in daily barrier form
  • Support and drive ideas for cost reductions.
  • Drive learning and adoption of efficient work methods, tools and procedures

 

Controls

  • If Time/Materials, understand, agrees and monitor number of workers assigned and materials used, sign off time sheets timely.
  • If Unit Rate, understand and approve basis and measurement and that it is consistent with contract, sign off approval sheet timely.
  • Conducts checks to confirm service delivery per contract.
  • Resolve CVI / claims timely, if agreement cannot be reached, escalate timely to FLS and Commercial Group.

Expected Level of Proficiency

  • A good general education is required with Standards/National 5s in five subjects with English Language and Maths as requirememts. Any additional certifications/qualifications are advantageous.
  • Good leadership skill and technical knowledge (Trade background), potential to be view as credible leader ready to be next Supervision / Leadership in EM.
  • Requires rigging and lifting experience and is qualified to appointed person level.
  • Familiar with LOLER and PUWER regs.
