JOB SUMMARY

 

The Instrument, Controls and Electrical Engineer is responsible to support operation of surface facilities within the Permian Basin, and, execute projects to support the development program.  The primary scope of responsibility is PLC based control systems, instrumentation and low/medium voltage electrical systems within individual facilities.  Operations support includes surveillance, programming, troubleshooting and opportunity identification.  Project execution includes design, procurement and working with a construction team to construct and commission projects.    


The role will be based in either Midland, TX or Carlsbad, NM.  The engineer will report to an Engineering Manager for day to day direction, and, work in a cross functional asset team to pursue and deliver business results

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

 

 

  • Work safely and identify and mitigate Instrumentation or Electrical design, construction and operational SHE risks
  • Support operations with troubleshooting and controls optimization 
  • Provide technical support to Instrumentation and low voltage Electrical equipment preventative maintenance programs
  • Manage multiple projects with moderate complexity.  Engineering support will include options analysis/selection, design, AFE management, procurement, drawings creation, construction support, commissioning support/start-up and post start-up modifications.
     

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

  • Ability to read and review P&IDs and electrical drawings. One line diagrams, panel wiring diagram, instrument loop wiring diagrams. 
  • Project management
  • Retrofitting/upgrading PLCs, DCS, F&G, and other protective systems
  • Application of regulations and standards applicable in the U.S. (ISA84, API RP 551, NEC)
  • Application of instruments in hazardous locations
  • Selection and application of Pressure/Flow/Level measurement systems
  • Troubleshooting instrument loops, controls, and tuning problems
  • Networking/field communications: Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Modbus RTU/RS-485/RS-232. MQTT, Radio and fiber optic communications, managed network switches, etc.
  • Low Voltage/Medium Voltage Motor control systems (contactors, smart overloads, soft starts, VFDs) and control methods/communication pathways. 
  • Power system and generation equipment maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Protective relay setting, testing, and coordination
  • Selection & specification of LV/MV transformers, switchgear, protective relays, motor control centers, variable speed drives, motors and power cables 
  • NETA MTS for electrical maintenance and inspection
  • Applying NFPA 70E Electrical Safety in the Workplace (Arc Flash)
  • Application of electrical equipment and circuits in hazardous locations
  • Troubleshooting electrical equipment and distribution problems
  • Utilize analytics and visualization software applications such as Ignition, SEEQ and Spotfire including development of dashboards for operations troubleshooting and support
  • SCADA implementation and support 
  • Demonstrated work experience in Upstream Oil & Gas Production support
  • Management of third party engineering firms
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or a related field with significant experience
