Research Technician Catalysis-Electrochemistry

For our European Technology Center in Brussels, we are looking for an experienced  Laboratory Technician.


This position provides technical laboratory support to the projects in the Active Materials department of the Company’s Chemical Research organization. The main activities consist of development and deployment of heterogeneous catalysts and adsorbents for chemical processes across different ExxonMobil Chemical business lines (incl. recycling, next generation feeds, advanced materials…) using a state-of-the-art synthesis lab to develop and optimize catalyst formulations and custom built multi-reactor pilot units to test those materials. 
 

What will you do?

 

 

Your tasks and responsibilities: 

 

  • perform work in full compliance with all safety, environmental and health regulations and procedures.
  • discuss pilot unit runs and conditions with project leads and Operations supervisor via open and honest communication.
  • be able to work independently but also within a small team of 4 lab technicians.
  • run different projects on bench scale pilot units, perform online or stand-alone GC, calculate and review data and discuss together with your responsible project lead.
  • plan and discuss work and priorities together with your direct colleagues on a daily base in order to be able to make progress on multiple projects in the lab.
  • need to interact with different groups and levels in the organization and need to implement all “license to operate” requirements.
  • take ownership of the related operational area and proposes improvement ideas to increase safety and efficiency in the area and on the equipment.
     

We are looking for :

 

To be eligble for this role you must :

 

  • have a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, production technology, materials science, chemical engineering or equivalent. 
  • experience with electrochemical cells is a plus
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in similar role as Laboratory Technician 
  • have high safety and quality awareness
  • have technical/mechanical knowledge, knowledge of organic chemistry, pilot units, GC`s are an advantage
  • experience in the field of electrochemistry and/or electro catalysis is a plus
  • have hands on mentality , solving issues on the spot during troubleshooting.
  • have a  standard knowledge of English is required (written and spoken) 
  • work with focus on accuracy, showing good observation and reporting / communication skills
  • be team player
  • be flexible in line with priority changes
  • be eager to learn and willing to support other projects 
  • take initiative and good sense of following embedded procedures
