For our European Technology Center in Brussels (Machelen), we are looking for a NMR Research Scientist.

 

 

The job opening is in the Analytical Science department, part of the company Research organization. This department provides consultancy to R&D programs for all ExxonMobil business lines (polyolefins, recycled polymers, next generation feeds, advanced materials...). It develops customized analytical solutions for technology, manufacturing and customers. The new state-of-the-art NMR laboratory is equipped with a solution-state spectrometer and can accommodate two other instruments. 
 

 

 

Job Role Responsibilities

 

 

  • Leadership and scientific expertise in NMR to support R&D projects and problem solving 
  • Development of NMR methods and handling instrument trouble shooting 
  • Technical guidance of lab research technician(s) 
  • Scientific conference presentation and article publication, when appropriate 
  • Active participation in developing Intellectual Property strategy with respect to NMR 
  • External networking with academia to maintain technical leadership 
  • Participation to the global Advanced Characterization Enterprise community of ExxonMobil company to maintain industry-leading characterization capabilities 

For this role we are looking for candidates with

 

 

  • PhD in the field of advanced NMR applied to chemistry, polymer and/or materials science 
  • Experience with Bruker spectrometers and software's 
  • Capability of maintaining equipment 
  • High standards in safety, quality and ethics 
  • Excellent computer skills (Linux, LAN administration, license management) 
  • Ability to foster strong team dynamic in both local and global analytical teams 
  • Excellent English language skills; Additional European languages will be a big advantage: Dutch, French, German, Italian, Spanish 
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
