To support the growth of our European Technology Center (ETC) in Brussels, we are looking for a Gas Chromatography Research Expert Technician. In ETC we strive to develop and maintain state-of-the-art capabilities to advance research in support for businesses throughout ExxonMobil. Research topics span from the discovery of new catalytic material for new or more efficient production processes, to the development of next generation packaging solution maximizing recyclability, via implementation of latest analytical techniques.

What will you do?

The successful candidate will join the Gas chromatography Laboratory within the analytical science department. As Expert Research Technician, you ensure safe lab operations and quality of results and reporting on a daily basis. You are involved in R&D activities supporting existing and future businesses of ExxonMobil (Recycling, next generation feeds, advanced materials…) and receive guidance from PhD scientists and laboratory supervisor. You can mentor junior and interface with internal customers.
 
Your role and responsibilities:

 

  • Be trained in a variety sample preparation and analysis techniques.
  • Perform daily sample preparation, testing on solids or liquids and analyse data.
  • Contribute to the development of new analytical techniques under limited supervision of PhD scientist. 
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot, GCs, GCxGCs, Mass Spectrometers (quadrupole, TOF), multi-purpose auto-sampler (headspace, SPME, liquid injection).
  • Collate and report data in a meaningful manner for internal requestors.
  • Collaborate with other technicians from other research and development laboratories.

 

For this role we are looking for candidates with

  • Strong safety mind set.
  • Five to ten years of hands on Gas Chromatography experience
  • GC x GC and mass spectrometry experience would be appreciated, GC-VUV experience is a plus
  • Seasoned working knowledge in the area of analytical testing. 
  • Interest in teamwork (at laboratory, department and technology centre level).
  • Good level of spoken and written English. 
  • Developed analytical mind.
  • General interest in applied research, developing technical knowledge, operation and maintenances of equipment.
  • The desire to work in a fast-paced, diverse and inclusive environment.
