Operator Guidance Technology Engineer

Job Role Summary

  • Work in an integrated project team environment to deploy and maintain instances of Operator Guidance Technology (OGT) process control applications which are used for process surveillance, monitoring, abnormal event detection and diagnosis in ExxonMobil’s refineries and chemical sites.
  • Execute all phases of projects, including planning, budgeting, scheduling, data analysis, conducting interviews, documenting results, communicating recommendations, stewardship, quality assurance, and closeout.
  • Complete projects within budget and on schedule.
  • Continuously seek project deployment efficiencies.
  • Provide technical support for sustainment of operator guidance applications by interfacing with engineers/operators at process facilities.

Expected Level of Proficiency

  • Bachelor of Engineering or higher degree in Chemical Engineering.
  • 5 years prior experience in plant operations is preferred.
  • Good understanding of Chemical Engineering principles, particularly the concepts of material balances, heat balances, temperature, pressure and flow measurements.
  • Possess process engineering background in order to be able to relate to Operators / Process Engineers / Application Engineers when discussing process events and troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of unit operations such as distillation towers, pumps, compressors, and heat exchangers to be able to develop models.
  • Prior knowledge of Principle Component Analysis and Partial Least Square models are a plus.
  • Good interpersonal skills required for interface with site personnel (engineers and operators).
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.  Must be a team player.
  • Must be responsible and able to work under minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with Honeywell-distributed control systems (TDC3000, TPS) will be an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively managing vendors, suppliers and contractors.
  • Willing and able to travel, both domestic and international.
