Job Title: Senior Research Engineer

 

ExxonMobil Upstream Research Company is seeking qualified and experienced individuals to perform hydraulic fracturing research to solve research and business problem in the area of Unconventionals Oil and Gas development.  The candidates will be responsible for working with multi-disciplinary teams including geoscientists, reservoir engineers, operations engineers to support fracture modeling and diagnostics technology development, leveraging fundamental knowledge of rock mechanics, numerical fracture modeling in hydraulic fracture job design. The position will be located in Spring, TX.

 

Job Role Responsibilities

 

  • Researching, assessing, and developing new fracture modeling technologies, tools and workflows for Unconventional applications
  • Conducting fracture modeling field studies to demonstrate and apply newly developed technologies and workflows
  • Planning, designing, executing field experiments and diagnostic testing, and analyzing test data to assess completion effectiveness

Candidates should be self-motivated and focused on achieving business results and working in a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated teamwork, communication and leadership skills are essential. Technical skill requirements are as follows:

  • PhD Degree in Mechanical, Civil, or Aerospace Engineering
  • Graduate work should be focused on numerical modeling of fractures/discontinuity propagation or experimental mechanics
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Upstream O&G industry focused on stimulation design & hydraulic fracture modeling to optimize completions for unconventional wells. Field operational experience with treatment design and pumping of hydraulic stimulation jobs is a plus
  • Knowledge of numerical fracture and damage modeling approaches and their application limits
  • Experience in using programming techniques such as Python, C++, MATLAB
  • Understanding of rock / geomechanics, hydraulic fracture modeling inputs/outputs and modeling techniques including theories/fundamentals
  • Proficiency in commercial hydraulic fracture modeling softwares such as MFrac, Gohfer, Kinetix, FEM based simulation methods. Exposure to integrated fracture and reservoir modeling is a plus.
  • Exposure to diagnostic fracture injection testing (DFIT), fracture pressure analysis, Reveal, Step rate tests, fiber optics and other field diagnostic techniques is a plus
