Senior Piping Engineer - Experienced

Job Role Summary

This individual will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to ExxonMobil’s Upstream production affiliates and capital projects in the area of piping systems.  Candidates for this position must have significant experience in the selection, design, fabrication, start-up, operation and maintenance of piping systems for process plants and production facilities.   This position requires a working level knowledge of system components such as piping, valves, flanges, fittings, and strainers, and all aspects of piping design such as specification, layout, support, stress analysis and 3D Modeling. The Piping Engineer has the engineering knowledge and capability to perform detailed engineering reviews, perform and evaluate engineering analyses, troubleshoot piping systems and oversee the technical work of less experienced personnel.

Job Role Responsibilities

• Supports piping engineering needs across the Upstream Facilities organization
 Conducts detailed technical evaluations to address issues with piping components and piping system design, operation, inspection and maintenance
 Provides pertinent engineering expertise to Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) teams
 Stewards contractor deliverables as requested to ensure compliance with project specifications
 Participates in design reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPs, vendor qualification, and vendor bid evaluations as requested
 Engages in global Supplier initiatives
 Develops and maintains piping related Global Practices and supports implementation
• Provides technical mentorship to less experienced engineers
• Proactively and continuously grows discipline’s technical expertise in pertinent technologies

Expected Level of Proficiency

• Bachelor of Science Degree in a related Engineering Discipline
• At least 15 years of closely related professional experience.  At least 5 years of this experience must involve Upstream crude oil and natural gas production facilities such as wellheads, production platforms, Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessels, crude oil and natural gas separation/treatment facilities and LNG production plants
• Broad and extensive knowledge of and demonstrated experience with:
 Onshore and offshore facilities design and maintenance practices
 Industry design standards, specifications, codes, and  relevant computer software.  These include:
o ASME B31.1 and B31.3 Codes
o Flange analysis according to Section VIII, Division I of the ASME Code
o Piping Material Specifications and Line Classes
o Relevant ASME, API and British/ISO Standards for system components such as piping, fittings, flanges, and valves
o CAESAR II analysis software.  Candidates must have experience performing computerized stress analysis of complex piping systems and specifying piping supports for static and dynamic loads
o Familiarity with commercially available 3D Modeling programs such as PDMS and Naviworks
• Willing and able to travel as required, both domestic and international
• Effective leadership skills, including ability to influence with no direct formal authority
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Adaptability to time pressures and rapidly changing priorities
• Well organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
