About Houston
ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups. The facility opened in 2014 and accommodates more than 10,000 employees and visitors.

What role you will play in our team
We are planning to hire an experienced Riser Engineer to work out of ExxonMobil’s Houston Campus in the United States of America. The candidate would be part of ExxonMobil’s Pipeline and Risers team in ExxonMobil Technology and Engineering organization, responsible for:
- The development of riser systems within multi-discipline deepwater SURF (Subsea, Umbilicals, Risers, Flowlines) Project teams from concept through detailed engineering and installation, and
- The structural integrity support of operated riser systems throughout ExxonMobil’s diverse, global portfolio of assets.
What you will do
- Develop, specify, and apply riser system design criteria for a wide variety of activities, developments, and operations, i.e., large-scale deepwater capital projects, R&D programs, and offshore installation activities.
- Involvement in various riser engineering activities for deepwater projects from concept evaluation and selection to installation to commissioning and start up
- Oversee riser analysis studies (conducted by ExxonMobil internal resources and / or third party companies) to support riser system design (i.e., strength, fatigue, interference)
- Evaluate strengths and shortcomings of different riser system designs
- Lead revisions to company standards and influence industry standard revisions
- Interface with engineers from other disciplines (e.g., marine, pipelines, flow assurance, materials) to align on work scopes and work products
- Interface with suppliers, contractors and other third parties to ensure riser system components are qualified, manufactured and tested in alignment with ExxonMobil expectations
- Participate in offshore industry activities such as conferences, industry committees, Joint Industry Programs, technology development and integration
- Participate in risk assessments, root cause failure analysis, fitness for service, and life extension evaluations
- Mentor and guide less experienced engineers in the riser discipline
- Sustain and promote ExxonMobil’s safety culture
Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum of 5-10 years of experience in Riser Engineering, with preferable experience with Flexible Riser systems
- B.S., or M.S. degree in Engineering – preferably in Mechanical / Civil / Aerospace / Marine Engineering or related disciplines
- Working knowledge of deepwater riser systems, including design, installation, and operation
- Working knowledge of applying riser engineering codes & standards, such as API 17J, 17L1 and 2RD
- Willingness and ability to travel internationally
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite of software programs
- Ability to read, write, and speak fluent English
- Ability to adapt to tight deadlines and frequent changes in priorities
Preferred Qualifications/ Experience
- Broad knowledge of industry standards (e.g., API 17J, 17B, 2RD, 2RIM), best practices, and related work processes
- Working knowledge of riser analysis software programs such as OrcaFlex and dynamic analyses (i.e., strength, fatigue, interference)
- Ability to adapt to tight deadlines and frequent changes in priorities
- Strong leadership, influencing, and interpersonal skills, ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
- Strong organizational, coordination, planning, and interface skills
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
